I'm predicting who I think will make it to council -- not who I support. Lonsdale is not who I would vote for if I lived in that ward, but I will be surprised if he doesn't make it.

but no problem here with Glenn Livingstone back for another term.
He's good, but the others are old faces.

Agreed. My picks to get in (not necessarily who I support though some are) Vicki Buck a cert for Riccarton: so that will eliminate either Helen Broughton or Jimmy Chen, maybe both. I reckon Yani Johansen and Paul Lonsdale for Hagley-Ferrymead (Lonsdale will take over Tim Carter’s votes). Fendalton looks like an unholy scrap: some good people but the vote could be split many ways. Pegasus has shamefully few and a rather tired selection of candidates: no X-factor. Then Shirley: Ali Jones and? Whatever, It’s the end of the A-team.
An odd thing: Rod Cameron is listed as standing for two or three council seats and three community boards: how the hell does that work? Is it allowable? Talk about spreading the risk!

I'm in Spreydon-Heathcote: no Wells, no Barry Corbett, so a new start this time for council seats. Erin Jamieson of UCSA is standing: tick. Then either Steve Bush (Trees for Canterbury founder and good man) or for a better chance of getting in, independent Tim Scandrett. Phil Clearwater from the community board is standing for Labour-in-drag, the offputtingly named People's Choice. He's a good man but the CCC really doesn't need the local Labour Party to dominate with their toxic tribalism.

The kale is growing again now: I'm trying russian red this time and find it vry agreeable. The rocket is an Italian variety from Franchi seeds, which is quite cost effctive: 6000 or so seeds for $8!

I'm looking at the local body nominations list on the CCC website and wondering if it is up to date (nominations closed at midday). The surprise is Cr Sue Wells not being on the list .
