Hard News: The shaky ground of…, in reply to
open and collaborative, and it aimed at how to get people with diverse working and communication styles to respect each other’s differences and work together more effectively. I learned some things from that.
I’ve found the Perceiving/Judging aspect helpful to understand. Because I’m a strongly Judging type (I like to make and follow plans, make decisions quickly and then move on) I’ve always found Perceivers exasperating: to me they can appear indecisive and time-wasting. But they have an open and flexible approach that I can see is also valuable.
I think there can be a lot of value in understanding different approaches when working together. But for hiring and firing, as you say, this type of testing seems spurious.

and of course, that she’s talented. Seems to have a voice beyond her years to me.
Voice, character, presence, and songwriting skill!

Throughout the city community groups and not-for-profits staff are buggered from overwork and burn-out. The poor struggle to meet horrific rents, while the middle classes in the firing line of the quakes are giving shrinks new benchmarks for sedation thresholds before they chill. People, me included, get inexplicable viral infections that go on for months as the adrenalin/cortisol combo aftermath hammers already-compromised immune systems while a rainstorm makes Elizabethan open sewers of our rivers.
The very real feeling of disempowerment that comes from not being able to literally trust the ground you stand on, never mind government and insurers, means people have a huge hunger to feel they have some say, some small control over their lives.
This is very well put. Thank you.

not quite getting it
<facepalm> Can we agree that Selina Gomez is completely unsuited to the song?
I rather like YouTube-gal Anna Burden’s sweetly low-tech version:

It seemed to help when she was able to regather and set her own pitch for ‘Swingin’ Party’.
I got goosebumps when she started belting that out. Win.

“Royals” is good but it ain’t no “Wuthering Heights”
Would be a shame if Lorde had nothing left to aspire to! :-)

I had a clumsy night of it, and deleted half the photos I took with my hips. i.e. left the camera on while dancing.
Oh dude! It's " shoot from the hip"!
But I love that you had such a happy dancey time. :-) -
what was really remarkable was the quality of the songs. Four or five tunes from her forthcoming debut sound like hits, before ‘Royals’ has even done its business.
So much this. So much great material, all at once. I expected Royals , Tennis Court , and Love Club to carry the evening. But it was all so great.
I agree that there were some rough edges, and those few minutes when she wasn’t quite hitting the mark, but man. She kept her composure and brought it right back. One young woman in that huge venue. What sangfroid.
