Not quite the only crookedness: using your finance company to buy yourself a yacht is pretty crooked; not necessarily illegal, but certainly crooked.
Buy oneself a yacht is crooked. Buying a yacht as an investment is just a risky venture. Very risky, I'd say, but if it's a small part of a large portfolio, then only hindsight says it's a bad investment.

whilst enjoying the freedom of getting a bit hot under the collar about things, when we find we need to replace the needle.
Or by a new record. On the quality, I tend to agree that a brand new vinyl did sometimes sound better than a CD. But my old vinyls sound scratched and worn, and my old CDs just sound as they always did. Losslessly compressed MP3 files are totally indistinguishable from them.
The drop in quality that I most lament in the digital age is that of film. Actual film is still much higher quality than digitally captured movies, and I hate that massively high budget films think they can get away with it, particularly for anything fast moving, dark, or slow motion.
Naturally I'm not talking about digitizing film that was captured on actual film, that's a brilliant idea, the very best way to back up footage and the most convenient way to manipulate it.

So what’s your plan for when you jack in (or are unable to continue) the day job?
My plan is to own a house, and put my savings in the bank. In that order, since mortgage rates are higher than savings interest and paying off debt is tax-exempt. It's pretty much the same plan most old people did have, but then they got tricked or greedy and started taking risks with their capital.
To be fair, both sides are to blame. Obviously, any time someone loses your money they are incompetent and possibly crooked, but you did have to sign up with them, and chose to do so based on offerings that were beating risk-free investments. I find it hard to believe that people don't understand what 'not risk free' means.
The only crookedness is when the amount of risk is misrepresented.

LOL, Felix, you have misinterpreted. I was referring to Rodney Hide's absences.

And, to be honest, that's not an appealing prospect. A lot of SC business is not exactly riveting stuff. It's a matter of making a news judgment about what's significant, how many people will be affected, and flow on implications ... etc etc.
All fairly important factors in the decision about whether or not to start a major political push to scrap something like the ETS. It looks like either laziness, or an agenda hiding behind laziness.

They should totally steal the ring of power and set up a new Dark Tower in Bowen House.
I'm glad someone saw the reference. And it seems like the Ring of Power is exactly what is on offer, for the mere price of selling the Maori party's soul. If I remember our own lame Te Quaeda incident, it is likely to be Maori who will be held by these laws.

Of all the changes going under urgency, it's the change to bail laws that scares me. All the rest is "Well, you will get that under a National government'. Tax cuts, undermining KiwiSaver, even draconian changes to employment legislation (you'd be crazy not to think this would happen). But I can't really see what's urgent about the need to change some quite fundamental human rights totally unrelated to economics and the current financial crisis.
Will they get the numbers? Could be some interesting votes coming up, a chance for the Maori party to show their quality.

Having no chimney, the only way in for Santa is via the catflap. I guess I'll tell my boy that Santa is outsourcing to elves these days.

With Christmas shopping I'm not sure if Damage Per Second or Health/Armor or Healing is most important. An ideal party will have all three. Speed and stealth are also important attributes. It's a dungeon that's really just too high level for me, I expect to get party wiped when my team all log out in protest.
