S'funny, cos I don't actually know any Brits who would regard 'Brit' as an insult, either

I don't know of any Brits who think of themselves as British. They are English,Scottish, Welsh or Ulstermen. In any case, if Brit is an insult, it is a pretty lame one.

Well, I've got a third option. Key and Clark holding a joint press conference and saying that if more than 5% of those who cast party votes return New Zealand First to Parliament, that's democracy. But they should do so in the full knowledge that Winston Peters and his party will have no role in any government they form. No ifs. No buts. No wiggle room.

Yes. The best idea I have heard so far in this campaign. But bear in mind that his people will still vote for him. They are weird like that.

Textual analysis: the PM's statement had 1302 words, nine of which were interesting: "The general election will be held on 8th November."

There's an awful lot of people here trying to educate the blogger, with their golden rules and guiding principles about air travel. My guiding prinicple is that, if someone suffers a misfortune, it does not help to tell him he should have done something else.

  • Hard News: Conscious Party,

I don't have a theory really, but it wouldn't surprise me that, given the general left wing nature of such gatherings, the Nats wrote off things like the music, film and TV awards etc as not worth their time.

You will find them at the art show viewings, at those dealers which sell middle-brow representational art to middle-brow unrepresentational people. The Nats play to the Parnell crowd.

I have it on good authority that a senior Tory was at one such event and, surveying the crowd, said, "here is the National Party at play." We can expect a renaissance of bad art if National get to power.

  • Hard News: Need to Know,

Tariana Turia's allegations 2 years ago were very serious. This was an attempt to persuade the Maori Party to go with Labour. So either she was wrong, or there's some other expat with a yacht offering money to political parties.

We have not seen much of TT since she made this allegation. How would one say "the first Mrs Rochester" in Te Reo?
