Counting is just trivial while there are still so many people alive in need of rescue and dead in need of their loved ones knowing. I support authorities putting all their efforts there rather than fuelling pointless armchair speculation.

That account is just incredible.
I wish I could do something to help.

Also on Twitter @safeinchch is a central point for those seeking to confirm their family members are well.

The Student Volunteer Army has reactivated, and they're likely to be a useful outlet for those wanting to help in the next few days. Spread the word (and perhaps add this to the list on the page?).

Conspiracy theorists and political vultures can shut up already - this is well above pointscoring. People are fighting for their lives, a city is in ruins, and many people are dead.
I'm really affected by this, and I hardly know a soul there.

we haven't heard from her. It's nervewracking waiting and wondering from far away and even too diffficult for those of the whanau in Chrsitchurch to get any news.
I hope, with all my heart, that she's okay.

Winning a marginal seat absolutely gets you more people in Parliament.
No it doesn't. Those seats are deducted from party vote seats you might otherwise have won. Unless there's a wild divergence between your electorate vote and the party vote (eg Maori Party), and there aren't enough list vote MPs to deduct.
Not to say that there aren't reasons you might want more electorate MPs.

Good Day Mediaphiles!
Back to the Future, indeed. We've heard all of this before. Remember when Shipley tried to foist the Code of Social Responsibility onto us during the 97-98 recession?
Cause we were immoral then. And we're immoral again now. Stop breeding. Stop drinking! (unless you're in the Official Rugby World Cup (tm) Heineken (tm) Stand). Create yourself a job.
