Yes Melanie Phillips' is crazy here but it doesn't look like it is being picked up by the usual suspects. It's yet to reach the levels of madness the left got to. Truthout etc. Maybe it will though.
It is amusing how the conspiracy bizarrely includes real neocons.

I don't know what "neocon" means anymore but glancing thru those sites there's not really any indication that they are taking this seriously. Instapundit and Powerline mention it in passing. Pajamasmedia doen't seem to have anything other than a link to the orginal story.
Glenn Reynolds doesn't sound particlularly convinced -

Maybe there's other evidence but it doesn't appear to have been embraced that much.

Michael Moore peddled a Left wing conspiracy theory about 9-11 that went down pretty well with many on the left. That was far more influential than Melanie Phillips' craziness.
In fact conspiracy theories about 9-11 have come mostly from the Left.

I thought DPF was celebrating because here in NZ the Right benefits from the fact you have to go out of your way to be confronted with Steyn's idiocy and also that the Left has no such advantage with Fisk.

What strikes me about these sorts of events is how strongly some men hold grudges and the determination to make as many people pay as possible. Women just don't do it. Not as often at least.

rodgerd could have used Columbine as an example. But even though the victims of Aramoana and Virginia-Tech were random the events themselves were planed and had an agenda.
I think rodgerd was saying that these rare events are not really where the problem of gun violence lies in the US and even with effective gun control that's not going to stop the most determined people causing events like this.
With all the talk of Cho Seung-Hui origins not much attention is being paid to the fact that he was both young and male.

Mention was made a while back of the digital rights to McCahon's works. How will those sorts of property rights fit in with resale royalties?
I could imagine artists selling the paiting but keeping the didgial rights - which could wind up being worth more. And would digital rights be liable to resale royalty?

regulation tends to distort market forces. Distortion of market forces tends to lead to inefficiency and inefficiency tends to create opportunity for exploitation, which seems to require more intervention.
That can be true but it's through regulation that property rights are enforced.
When art dealers make big money from selling the paintings of particular artists then they are exploiting the reputation of that artist - that's the selling point, not (or not just) the painting's artistic merit. One could argue that that reputation doesn't belong to the artist - it's a social construct, but it belongs even less to the the dealer and the purchaser - but they both benefit. So should the artist.

If those wines were considered "art". Has this, defining what is art, been a contentious issue in countries where there is resale royalties? I assume this is determined at the initial sale.

If this is just for dealers and auctioneers then it sounds reasonable. They make an on-going living out of selling one-offs.
Should I, though, expect to get paid for the work I did years ago when I was new at it and inexperienced and unknown?
People pay lots of money for paintings not necessarily because of their artistic merit. Reminds me of a certain film.
