  • Island Life: What I saw at the product launch,

So Auckland Central's becoming a slightly hipper Epsom?

You can tell by the houses: made-over villas, freshly painted in tones of grey with a cement garden for OSP and a stone-clad wall to keep the natives out.

I think at most zoos the otters and seals would be big winners. Perhaps we could encourage them to take over less well-performing animals and see if they can help them lift their game?

Political Correctness gone mad! Otters and seals punch above their weight because they anthropomorphic. They should not be held back by lesser animals, which should take responsibility for their own evolution. In the dog-eat-dog world of the modern zoo, it is only the cutest that survive.

  • Island Life: What I saw at the product launch,

I believe the boundary of Auckland Central was tweaked slightly to compensate for its increasing population. I'm not sure exactly what the change was, other than it's now a smaller area. Perhaps it now includes less of the more left-leaning suburban areas and more millionaires have returned to Waiheke. Heh.

Auckland Central lost Point Chev, which provided a substantial chunk of Labour support. At the same time, the gentrification of the inner suburbs has continued apace.

That said, the management of Judith's campaign was a shambles. I left the management team after many unproductive meetings and after my duties were usurped by another member, whose ambition was not accompanied by talent.

  • Hard News: Prospects,

Ah, the old food, scenery and ingenuity speech. Where did the ideas in that come from? Some New Zealand tourism promo film from the '80s?

    The future is beige.

Then I realised something - all the Labour seats were in urban areas ... I'm not sure what this says about New Zealand.

It says that our main assets are food production, scenery and Kiwi ingenuity. That's why you'll never see a farmer on a bike.

Craig, I bet you won't bump into John Key at Peter Grimes.

    Just saying.

  • Hard News: Prospects,

Stephen, I left Labour a few weeks back, but I voted for it. I wouldn't do the same under Goff, for the same reasons as yours.

Having worked for Judtih Tizard, I take issue with those who are gleeful she is not in the Caucus. Judith did a tremendous amount of work for no reward, within the party and without.

  • Hard News: Prospects,

Only folk outside Labour think that Goff will be leader. He is not popular in the party.

Labour will skip its Lost Generation of people who left in the 80s and ignore former Rogernomes like Goff. It will be Cunliffe or Parker, probably the former.

  • Hard News: Prospects,

New Zealand's assets (as checked by Mr Key)

    1. Food
    2. Scenery
    3. Ingenuity

He should be writing tourist guides, not running the country.
