Capture: Coast to Coast, in reply to
looking forward to having you here – you are missing such a lot!
Thank you Leigh! Me too.
I wondered if it was a sheeps skull, but no, it’s the remains of a bull-kelp hold-fast
I think kelp holdfasts are amazing – gripping so strongly to the rock that even the worst storms seldom dislodge them. And taking the weight of a human being is no challenge at all!

Thanks all! It can be very cold down there, but also scorching. It's very changeable, with showers passing through unpredictably. There are lots of rainbows!

Very meta column, Russell! ;-)

I agree absolutely with you… with the exception
Dude, please stop now. You already Godwinned the thread.

Mandela was known for forgiving his captors, after decades of unjust imprisonment. If he can do that, can't we at least be civil to people with different political views?
It'd be sad if the Mandela memorial thread turned into a dirty catfight.

PA-HN is a good, safe place to discuss serious matters in a civil way
And it's a good, safe place because by and large people act respectfully and speak civilly.
When people like you and Morrissey start firing off personal abuse, the place stops being good and safe. It's you who are the problem here, not Hooton. Hooton has commented in good faith and with respect. You have every right to disagree strenuously, but this place only works if we can be civilised.
Remember when I told everyone you weren't a troll? Don't make me regret that.

I'm really keen on Twitter Aunties (#twitteraunties) because it's a local movement using social media to bring people and resources together, as if by magic. Not to overlook the huge amount of work it's been for Jackie and the other Aunties, but this is a contemporary phenomenon. Traditional methods would simply not have worked like this.

hence my scepticism over Hooton’s sanctimonious and carefully advertised posturing over this and “Willie” and “JT”.
On the contrary, I think these situations allow for moments of solidarity between disparate groups, and we should celebrate that opportunity.
I also respect those who over the years have changed their views and have the guts to admit it, and apologise, like Jim Bolger did.
