I think I addressed the response about stocking up in advance. If I didn't, let me clarify, simplify: Why the fuck should I? Yup, that's my point.
Sunday trading (in alcohol) only started in December 1999. Must've been hell for some before then.

I find it unlikely that any NZ ISP would have the ability to throttle customers based on the site they're going to.

Well, the iPad is out in the wild now and there are plenty of reviews on the intertubes. If you can't be bothered reading them all, this is the definitive review from ArsTechnica. 18 pages!

I feel left out. No Dottor Chi for us.
Yeah, me too. No Doktor Vem for us either. Even having watched it now and then with my own kids over the last few years, I'm afraid I just don't get it. I suspect you need to get hooked at an early age or it'll never happen.
A bit like Vegemite.

What does he think about forgiveness? Does he give any credence to forgiveness as a precursor to healing?
What does McVicar think of restorative justice?
I have no interest whatsoever in what McVicar thinks on any of these issues. To me the question is why anyone cares what he thinks?

...interested in how McVicar has achieved his go-to status with the news media
This is probably the most disturbing aspect for me. As much as I dislike his opinions, he's doing a great job of getting those very opinions out there. The fact that he's quoted as someone who knows his stuff and as a legal expert is not really his "fault" as such.

In Europe the phone book has everyones profession in it, as a title
Ah yes, that European phone book. I remember it well. It came in 87 leatherbound volumes for each household.

Sweden is a deeply perplexing example. It should be a sex-crime free utopia, according to the study Emma linked to: it has classically liberal porn laws (no age limits on possession or viewing!).
That's not what Wikipedia tells me:
Well, that Wikipedia entry does not really contradict the original quote. Statens Biografbyrå only has a mandate to review and censor movies for release in cinemas. They have nothing to do with print, video, TV, or any other forms of distribution. Their censorship is mainly aimed at setting age-limits for movies. Also, they tend not to be too concerned with sex and nudity, but focus on violence.

Don't forget that burnt-out P-labs are a great tourist attraction.
I wish I was totally joking, but J Brownlee said on radio this morning that mines have great value as tourist attractions. Can't find the link, but it really sounded like Sean Plunket (?) was taking the piss. Brownlee not so much.
