Sheesh, I've never read Whaleoil's blog before, and after checking out his exchange with Cameron today, I don't think I'll be going back!
Classic 'playground' argument tactics; completely ignoring any points raised in opposition to his argument, personal attacks, crude language...Whaleoil seems like a real creep!

Wow, not only is Wishart's book too explosive to reveal any details about, it's also his 'punchiest yet'...
Is 'punchiest' even a word? Doesn't bode well for this mightiest of tomes...

I'm fairly young and new to the workforce (still consolidating after student days etc), and I have to say most of the people my age that I know are completely and utterly resigned to not buying a home in the medium-long term...it's just impossible.
The thought of paying 9%+ on a loan of hundreds of thousands of dollars seems completely unrealistic to me; my $30,000 (interest free) student loan is a big enough hassle!
I'm quite happy paying 'some landlord's rent' at this stage; no rates, no interest and they even mow my lawn!

I thought the graffiti blog offered the most poignant, and relevant opinion on the whole 'yoof crime/tagging etc' issue that's the moral panic du jour...
Makes you wonder why Campbell, Sainsbury et al, with all of their writers and reasearchers can't come up with anything even slightly resembling an alternative angle on such a topic.

Regardless of the legality of whatever they've done in the past, there's something that always gets me kinda worked up; how can people (not just these parties in particular) sleep at night?
Making more money than anyone could ever spend, without producing anything tangible...it sure would be nice, but I don't think I could stomach it.
Brings to mind a NOFX song called 'The Irrationality of Rationality', which has a lyric 'When one makes $20 million, that 10,000 people lose, what keeps that one from swallowing a shotgun?'

I also noticed David's bookcases...I bet his house contains many leatherbound books, and smells like rich mahogony...

I think the reason there's a lack of 'yoof' representation on the boy racer 'issue' is because most of them couldn't care less about what everyone has been saying this week; I'm not a part of the boy racer scene at all, but I know it's pretty insular, and exists in it's current state because they don't want to be an included part of society.
It's all about being removed, being (in their eyes) special, or different. While stereotypically most of them not be the most eloquent kids you'll ever meet (how's that for a generalisation), I think it's more to do with the fact they literally don't care that 'oldies' or the media are up in arms. I've heard interviewers ask 'What will change this' a lot this week; the standard 'yoof' response has been a flat-out 'Nothing bro'.

I keep waiting for Reverend Lovejoy's wife (from the Simpsons) to pop up on Close Up or Campbell Live with her signature "won't somebody think of the children ??". Did anyone else think it was hilarious to see Clayton Cosgrove side-by-side with the 'yoof' from Tauranga last night? The kid could hardly stop himself from breaking out with a sh*t-eating grin...he was obviously taking it very seriously.
I also find it bemusing that NZ can't go more than a couple of weeks without finding some way of putting major social concerns squarely on the younger shoulders of the country. Like you point out RB, none of these problems are particularly new...they're just driving flasher cars.

Yeah yeah Hadyn, rub it in...
I think 'F*ck the Police' by NWA would probably be on there.
Maybe also Frenzal Rhomb's 'Who would be a f*ckin Cop?'...

First?
David Bane's iPod...hmmm...so many easy gags...hard to resist...
