  • Hard News: Mind Blending, in reply to Emma Hart,

I was prepared to stand the cost personally, but Quentin at Orcon has come back with some more money to cover it.

I'm sorry there's not a way to thank them for non-NZ residents.

  • Hard News: What Now?, in reply to Emma Hart,

Peter Hyde (Vicki's partner) has written this pretty good summary of the situation right now, especially in the Eastern suburbs.

Wow. That's quite an account and largely what I'd heard on the w/e.

  • Hard News: What Now?, in reply to Emma Hart,

This week, you’re going to start seeing an awful lot of anger coming through from people down here.

I caught up with one of my friends in Chch yesterday. He was lucky and has a lot of clarity about his role in the recovery in the short-term. I think that got him into a frame of mind where he could focus on what was and wasn't right about the recovery and about the balance of priorities. His view, which I think is similar to your's Emma, is that resources must flow into the poorer areas where people currently are without transport and can't get the basics.

It was lovely to hear you Emma and, in response to something you said, you and all your friends and loved ones in Christchurch are constantly on our minds.

ETA: By 'our' I mean 'the Black Caps' not 'mine and Megan's'. Just to be clear.

One day that story ought to be aired...

  • Hard News: Again: Is everyone okay?, in reply to Greg Dawson,

Greg, I don't much like his narrative either but I'm inclined to give most Christchurch-based commentators a break under the circumstances (though strongly agree with the praise for Zara Potts piece which was deeply moving). Still, all commentators would be wise to avoid turning this situation into evidence for or against any other cause unless they're a geologist.

Scott A, I just re-fb'd it (sotospeak) and yes, my friends Craig and Gio pointed out the limitations...

  • Up Front: Ups and Downs. And Side-to-Sides.,

It's also how the wider PAS community is coping. We're feeling traumatized, to a much lesser extent, but still. Get on with it, help in ways that are practical. Keep the arguments to a minimum. That's abnormal, though, and actually hard to cope with, I feel a little stink for giving Deborah Coddington shit on Pundit. Maybe being an insensitive pedant was her way of coping. It was her excuse anyway.

    Thanks Ben.
