hard, I know
Oh, come ON.

it really is an organ that probably should be on the inside of your body.
Must. Resist. Urge. To. Smut

And I'm sorry, Megan, but when I'm with my male friends, female anatomy is always and forever going to be a favorite subject. It's been a lifelong preoccupation.
And I understand that. But while it might be fine around a table at the pub, it probably isn't in a public, professional hallway. And certainly now within earshot of several women.

Talking filth isn't necessarily insulting.
Not necessarily.
But, it pays to be careful.
I walked past 2 (male) friends talking the other day, having a conversation that included the words "Great tits. Nice legs."
As I walked past, I jokingly said "thanks". But I also gave one of them a talking to later about describing women in those terms, and how it probably wasn't appropriate for certain places.

See, now you put me in a good mood for the whole day, and I had it pencilled as "grumpy". This is just going to mess with my schedule.
Darling, Fifi is all about putting you in a good mood.
[ETA: Just to rather prove Craig's point about filth]

My Media7 laydeez use "slut" as a term of affection with each other all the time.
I believe they have may have even used it on me, recently. Which was, you know, fine.
When I say I think about how I feel were it directed at me, I mean...said seriously, in context, and meant with hate.

I blame the malign influence of the PAS Women's XV who can swear to make a sailor blush, but still suggest you still think a little about gendered insults.
I do try really hard to stay away from gendered insults, and I reserve the c-word for when I am really angry.(despite, um, the cunt links story.) I even try (and mostly fail) not to use dick and cock. As insults.
My rule of thumb of offensiveness is not so much the word itself, but how I would feel if it ere directed at me. Which is why it always annoyed me that slut never made it into the BSA's top 20 most offensive words. (It is in the newest iteration (PDF link), but still lower down the list than I'd like.)
I feel like the C-Bomb, and cock, or cocksucker, lose something of what they mean when they're being used as an insult, but slut, whore, that kind of thing - that's real ladyhate.

One other thing.
A few years ago, Norma Plummer criticised NZ netball, asking where were the shooters coming through to relace Irene.
At the time, I remember grudgingly admitting she wasn't wrong.
So it was with quite a lot of relish I watched Maria Tutaia step up and play a simply fantastic, calm, and skilled game. She was brilliant, and while the aussies out-played Irene and took her out of the game, they didn't have much to match Maria.

Hey, Megan, d'you wanna tell that story... no, you probably don't, do you?
Oh, I've been dining out on that story for years.

"Chances of Meeting a Famous New Zealander are Actually Pretty High" Act of 1998.
I had a similar issue with an ex and some Canterbury rugby players. Especially when he realised I knew a couple of them...
