Skeptics - III (Flying Nun) 1987
http://www.discogs.com/release/807220
Fresh, innovative, exciting and moody.
The realisation of the ideas found on their previous recordings finally found the perfect form on III.
An album that like all good to great albums is more than the sum of its parts, individually (excusing AFFCO) the tracks are fine but when played as a album the thing comes to life, takes you on a journey if you will...
III didn't sound like it came from here, yet from where else could it have come?
Best of all it still sounds as menacing today as it did 20 years ago.
*blah blah blah* hey I'm no Smithies alright, it is just a bloody good listen!

Ricardo Villalobos
on the BDO... slap me silly, now that would be amusing
I was expecting a rather flat lineup and must admit I am pleased to say its not
Arcade Fire are meant to be off the hook live

100% New Zealand - kiwi singer but from where does the song come from?
call Jordon, maybe he could pen something outdoors like and with a extreme sports edge
wot a horrid ad
-
cheers for the medley, great stuff!
RIP Lee Hazlewood & Tony Wilson

Incidentally Fat Freddies dropped out of the Top 40 albums today after two years plus. The last few months have been down the bottom where it really only means someone has merely thought about buying you to get a place, but quite an achievement.
albums now mid price so wouldn't qualify for the album chart
great post Graham
when in london eons ago my first NZ band experiences were Bailter Space, who actually had a UK fanbase and thus played all these small (admittably) gigs in places I never visited again in and around London to English types, was very gratifiying to see others enjoy 'our' music, every other NZ act I saw the show was akin to a Uni orientation - that is ex pats and the bulk cared little for the actual band playing

wonders if we can expect a subway campaign like Ribena's
could be a growth market, advertising types get in there...

Speaking of NZ music wikis, there is already one for Hamilton - http://htown.elwiki.com - which is ridiculously extensive and informative.
wow, how very good this is, cheers for the link DanX

when I did my OE I could easily buy many a NZ bands release in many stores around the UK - all of whom pre dated NZOA... was an xpressway devotee and didn't miss one 7" whilst away
Not to mention the many many talented kiwis involved in the music biz internationally
great read here... nothing to add really excpet to say as a huge follower and fan of our local musical fare for far too long we have so many terrible and amazing acts in this country right now - be it due to NZOA and all the mediocrity pushers or not, the scene (not industry) is healthier than its ever been, no matter what ya tastes
its bloody great!

first to post.... last vote counted
democracy is a wonderful thing, if you control it

Yes, but as I explained in the post, I think it's been done with maximum cleverness
it would have if this was 1999
