  • Island Life: Good luck, Jim.,

Now you are being silly David
Do you think Miss Clarks faux anger about the police handling twins deaths came from the heart
Focus group polling pulls her strings as it does the other major parties
You could just about hear the clacking of the cue cards (nice line by the way) as you could in other manufactured rages that she has had in the past
When she says "I have had a guts full" it always sounds so, un-Miss Clark and back bar of the local boozer
Thats politics now, so get used to it

And as an addition to above
Not only charged with murder but failing to provide propper care because that sure as hell was the truth

  • Island Life: Ice-cold rabble rousing,

My personal view is the police should have charged both parents with murder Any other approach was and has ended up with both them (or rather their lawyers) claiming the other did it

Instead of the pollies chiming in about police procedures how about dealing with the real problem..poor parenting etc etc

    Good writing, fantantastic photos
    But......
On Friday we drive south, cross the infamous Foveaux and spend the weekend on Stewart sland
I have not as yet been sea sick but your description of the southern sea did not steady my nerves

I am really looking forward to the trip actually amongst really interesting things we are going to a Pantomime, probably the most southern in the world?

And as for that kid what a great start in life he is getting (apart from all the world knowing toilet habits)

  • Speaker: You, Me and the DHB: Your Tax…,

Well I am niether left or right handed, something to do with same sized brain hemispheres according to my teacher wife

So it sort of depends on which hand I first to used for chore whether or not I do anything sinister handed or not

It can lead to interesting times with valves, as to which way I turn them but does allow quick finding of left handed threads
A lot of trouble doing army drill and directions are best given with compass directions rather than left /right

I can write with iether hand but cannot do the Sylvia Ashton-Warner trick of writing a sentence from each side of a blackboard with each hand. Never tried it to be honest but it gives me a head ache to think about trying

  • Ways to Go,

I sort of like the idea of one of my uncles send off
Funeral in one of Cristchurches trendiest churches ( vicar later done for shop lifting if you need clues)
Front pew filled with a couple of ex-wifes, fiance, and possible a mistress/girl friend. All talking to each other in a civilised way
Rest of church filled with sobbing grandchildren and family

Unfortunatly I missed it as a good mate was drowned that week and that was a tear jerker

Not saying that would be my choice but it was in the style of the man, who really did start with bugger all

Me a quick impersonal service will be just fine, maybe a booze up afterwards, who cares I will be dead

  • Island Life: Supertooth,

One of the nice things of working in a winery at vintage is that the interns/assistant winemakers/cellar hands take turns to cook lunch

$10 a head, two hours to eat and some first class wines from the library make a long day livable
Our American is a chef so we get some dam fine meals.. homemade gnocci and hocks today washed down with a better pinot noir than most people ever get to drink
Meanwhile I have been working my way through a sheep making traditional nz farming meals....something clever with quince tomorrow though

    Retirement is hell

The Rockburn PA Pinot Noir does have a ring, we were going to call it the Devil's Staircase or something naffy
Cheaper by the barrel and really cheap by the tankful, we are to our knees in the stuff and that has nothing to do with the little incident with the pump today

  • Hard News: Things To Do,

Ok comming in a bit late on this
Don't complicate GST with exemptions just drop it back down to 10% where it started
And I really like the Greens Policy( I must be really tired and confused I can't believe I typed that but working in a winery does that to you) of those on low incomes being non taxed, I don't know but say up to 10 grand or may be 15
Seems to me that helps those on the bottom and it should be easy to administer
