I saw "Man On Wire" at the Wellington FF opening.
It was pretty damn good - but I found it deeply frustrating that two major questions the film raised (how did he learn to do this? How can he afford to fly himself and his friends around the world doing it?) were never addressed.

Man, I am LOVING the solopassion site (check out Perigo's stirring defense of Veitch!) It's devoted to reason, rationality and clear thinking and all of the authors are paranoid nutjobs. Its like Phillip K Dick rewrote The Fountainhead!

Perigo was writing a column on 'political incorrectness' (moron alert) for Salient last year; various undergraduate arts students wrote in to debate him and his subsequent column consisted of rebuttal in which he explained to them that they were loathsome brainwashed parasites who deserved to die.
I guess the next logical move in his career is to stand on street corners in his underwear screaming obscenities and handing out photocopied pamphlets about John Galt.

what you would have done if you were involved in a situation where you'd done something incredibly stupid, possibly out of character, possibly not, and the person you did it to for what ever reasons agreed to not put it to the police. what should he have done? i'm not siding with him, i'm just wondering how you think he should have acted post grossly stupid action.
Like most criminals you'd expect Veitch to act in his own self-interest, avoid the bad publicity, legal consequences of his actions ect. What you wouldn't expect is a torrent of apologists to appear dreaming up excuses for his criminal acts. Couldn't you apply identical logic to the guy who killed a police officer in Porirua recently and then tried to evade capture? He did something stupid, possibly out of character, what else was he supposed to do afterwards, ect ect?

I'd never heard of Veitch either. Whatever gene controls the urge to watch total strangers play a sports game is absent from my DNA - which means I rarely turn on the 6 PM news shows, or if I do then they're on mute most of the time.
