I have no doubt that some of the more idiotic comms managers
The implication being there are less idiotic ones?
I did say guesstimate. I don't think anyone knows. And I doubt we'll ever know, because the flag won't change and when it does change most of the costs will be devolved and hidden.
But a guess at any number less than several 10s of millions is naive at best and deceptive at worst.

Well we had two SAP projects ... delivered the promised benefits,
If you asked our CIO he'd say the same about our SAP implementation too. I'd bet there are very few CIOs who'd say their implementation of SAP was the disaster the actual users get to experience.
Which isn't to say yours isn't wonderful just that CIOs experience systems differently from users.

I’m calling BS
Have you ever been through a logo change?
Everything changes. The marketing team changes everything, all the colours on carpets, all the paintwork, business cards, company umberellas, office chairs.
Everything.
You don't think all our government departments will go through those changes as a result of the flag change? Frankly I think $60 million is way under the final cost.
Sure the costs will be partitioned off so it never looks like it cost the taxpayer, but the reality is all those individual budgets will get stacked with logo change costs. The whole point of this thing is to change the branding on NZ Inc. Any businessperson will tell you that comes at a cost. Pretending there is no cost is bizarre.

It’s one of the most costly aspects of TPP
That not a problem with the TPP. You will always be able to choose a local supplier if you believe they are better in any way, cheaper, faster, more responsive etc
What you won't be able to do is choose a local supplier simply because they are local.
And that is NOT the problem here. The problem we have is that NZ managers actively avoid local because ... well because they are bad managers.

6,000 people
My experience with management suggests that they always believe that what is offered by some big multinational MUST be better than what can be produced by anyone they could hire.
So if Deloittes offers SAP then it must be better than what could be produced by kiwis. As proof they can show you how much it costs.
Your logic has no impact on them, they are culturally immune to it.

I'm not in IT, but everything I have ever read and experienced suggests SAP was designed to destroy modern civilisation.

Our watching is dictated by my laziness in integrating new devices to our system* and my love of some key sports. To get cricket I have to get sky, which means we have sky on demand. Sky on demand has some nice and odd stuff, "About a girl" was typically British fun if a bit cliched at times. And Sky allows us to time shift any series we are interested in on broadcast TV.
We also really like watching TV series on blu-ray, which means really nice quality and no ads, but also means we watch most series about 6 months after they screen.
I personally don't pirate - because I can't figure out how writers and actors get paid if I pirate. But I also recognise that the appalling monopolies in NZ and stupid distribution rules combine to make piracy seem pretty damn reasonable.
As for what we watch, Castle, Elementary, The Night Manager, Project runway (Vibe), just downloaded Luther, set up to "tape" The Expanse on Zone (and hoping it isn't too gross). Would totally watch season 2 of "The Blue Rose" if the bastards hadn't killed it. Most cricket, some NFL, some NBL, March Madness (mostly watching from on the bike).
*each new device seems to involve at least 2 hours of me shouting at the computer trying to get the bloody thing to work with all the other bits of the system so the apple TV and the NAS media centre are firmly disconnected at the moment.

Can’t I just be a petulant dick?
I'm sorry we have already filled that position.
However, your interest in that role has been noted and you are now 2618473rd in the queue.

No the conclusion is that IF we spend our money on a new flag that it should be GOOD.
Because if we spend our money on a BAD flag we will all feel really shitty about it for ages and be thinking of all the actually nice things we could have spent that money on.
It's not complicated Rich
