Speaker: Telling Our Own Tales, in reply to
if we have an event of the magnitude of the 1855 Wairarapa earthquake that considerably altered the coastline of the North Island, the Christchurch events will pale in comparison. I wish the self-serving glory seeking politicians supposedly running the rebuild from the top down would realise we absolutely cannot afford to get this wrong in a country like New Zealand.
Amen. We really are in this together.

outline of what any political party proposes to do for increasing politically neutral accountability and oversight in Ministerial offices, including the PM's office.
It didn't used to be needed .

Something non-Chch people can do to help us is vote for a government that will restore our local democracy. We can't vote for our Canterbury Regional Council, and the City Council is overruled at every turn by Gerry Brownlee with the extraordinary powers he has been granted by central government.
We didn't choose the plan for rebuilding the central city, we didn't choose the stadium, or the Frame, or any of that. It's being forced on us, and we are forced to use our rates money to pay for it. This is not right, and you can help change it by voting this government out.

And thanks again to Russell for giving us room the last few years here on PAS, it means a lot.
Arohanui to all Chch people today, and to those elsewhere who support us and listen to us. You've no idea how much that helps.

Thank you Gerard for this excellent post. I absolutely agree that Chch ppl lack a forum to communicate not just with officialdom but also with each other. Let alone with the rest of NZ.
Some groups, notably Gap Filler and the Avon River Park group have used FaceBook to good effect. But that's barely scratching the surface of the stuff we need to talk about.

What a wonderful story! Thank you Harold. And get better soon!

Hard News: Why we thought what we thought, in reply to
She wants a narrow, tame inquiry like the one McCully set up into the Malaysian diplomat. The PM will oblige her tomorrow.
Which will raise more questions than it can answer.

We need a formal government Inquiry to unravel this horrifying mess, and punish those responsible.
Of course only a government that didn’t need such an inquiry would be prepared to hold one.
Fortunately, we can elect a different one.
And Judith Collins has actually said she wants an Inquiry. To clear her name.
