Nicky Hager’s own statement about the raid.
The police spent over ten hours searching the house and removing property in an attempt to discover the identity of the person who provided information used in my book Dirty Politics.
Soon after the police arrived, the lead detective stated that I was not a suspect in their case, merely a witness. I spoke to him by phone and informed him that he would find no information in the house about my source. Nonetheless, he and his four colleagues seized a large collection of papers and electronic equipment belonging to my family, including computers, drives, phones, CDs, an IPOD and a camera. -
Speaker: Why we should not dismiss…, in reply to
being unable to even mention Nazi parallels lends aid to actual fascists
It’s not a Godwin if the comparison is actually relevant.
Godwin’s law applies especially to inappropriate, inordinate, or hyperbolic comparisons of other situations (or one’s opponent) with Nazis – often referred to as “playing the Hitler card”. The law and its corollaries would not apply to discussions covering known mainstays of Nazi Germany such as genocide, eugenics, or racial superiority, nor, more debatably, to a discussion of other totalitarian regimes or ideologies, if that was the explicit topic of conversation, because a Nazi comparison in those circumstances may be appropriate

Ultimatum.
Authoritarian brute.
Yeah, but I'm an authoritarian brute with pretty nails. :-)

James’ ultimatum
James has made a statement of his own personal position. It would be an ultimatum if he actually had power over Cunliffe. Let's not be too silly.

Speaker: An Open Letter To David Cunliffe, in reply to
You have to expect pretty frikken robust opposition to anyone making ultimatums about who the potential next leader of the entire country should be.
Did I miss the memo about James getting to pick the PM? He has no more say than any other Party member. And whoever the Party chooses will still have to be elected by voters in the usual way.
James is a regular guy with a passionate political commitment. He's working for the good of the Labour Party as he sees it. He deserves to be treated like the decent person he is.

Speaker: Compulsory voting and election turnout, in reply to
the "compulsion violates rights" is near-meaningless. As a resident you have to pay taxes, obey laws, purchase licenses and permits. As a citizen it's even worse, you can be called up to serve on a jury or in the military as well. If you own land it's even worse as you have to pay rates and maintain the land to a minimum standard plus allow access by the 200+ different classes of officious wankers poking their nose into your so-called "private land". And you're worried about being forced to vote every three years? Bwahahaha.
This. I'm all for it.

OnPoint: Sunlight Resistance, in reply to
Oh, sure … you can complain. But don’t expect to be listened to. Case in point – why do policies so markedly favour old people over young? Which may be terribly unfair and all that … but it’s what you get when you (or, rather, your age/class/ethnicity cohort) aren’t active participants.
You imply that democracy consists of putting ticks in boxes every 3 years. It doesn't.
