I'm fairly sure you can not only take photos of anything in a public place in NZ, but the copyright in those photos is vested by statute in the photographer.
(John Radford, the creator of the Tip sculptures in Western park was trying to sue Hallensteins for using images of them on a tshirt. Presumably he's finally got a better lawyer and been advised to give up. If you don't want your creations photographed and those photos used, don't allow them in a public place in NZ.

The English county championship is 4 day games, as is the Sheffield Shield.

I wonder how long before somebody does Streetview On Demand, where you pay $10 or so and a car is dispatched to photograph your chosen address in realtime.

o we all stuck our feet into cow pats, and after walking over the frost it was bosker and warm sure enough
Fooking looxury!
When I was lad we used 't have 't walk home across 't pennines in bare feet. In't snow. After 72 hour shift down't pit.

According to Wikipedia, the RAF only trains pilots on the Hawk (the equivalent of a Macchi) if they are going on to fly fast jets (Tornado/Eurofighter/Harrier). Multi-engine pilots train on King Airs, just as in the RNZAF.

Yeah, coz if they beat us in the pool it just means a different side in the quarter finals. It's the knockout stages that really matter.

Do they always announce the World Cup draw 2 years out?
Looks like NZ can't meet France until the final, right?

I think of it as Auckland University of Tautology

no aircraft, apart from lumbering old commercial 757s that we can quickly send to an offshore situation
Provided said situation was no more than 900km from an airbase. And we knew exactly where it was and didn't need to search around. The P3 Orion may be old and unglam, but it can fly a long way and stay in the sky for a long time.
It'd be nice to have some proper naval vessels to fire such rockets from
See any of Lewis Page's ouvre on El Reg for why frigates (which I guess you refer to) are a poor idea for most of the jobs a navy is called on to do. They're many times the price of commercial-based ships like Canterbury, need more crew and more maintenance.
I guess the question NZ defence policy is whether the purpose of the NZDF is to intervene when needed if bad stuff happens around here, or to have enough pointy stuff to look good with the Aussies/Yanks/Brits. (Who have the belligerence, paranoia and money to require an impressive collection of such toys).

If you want actual bad shit that National is doing:
- Bringing in legislation under urgency and without consultation to try and jail people on suspicion.
- Delaying the ETS, while other countries move ahead and are already taking countermeasures against recalcitrant nations that deny global warming. Like taxing air fares.
- Looking at giving the Air Force back their jet fighters as a future christmas present. Jet fighters that arer obsolete and have no armament, at that.
