Maybe we need some sort of Wikinews type thing for NZ. The problem with Wikinews is that the coverage depends on what people want to write about, so it's a bit random:
# US F-18 fighter jet crashes in San Diego residential area
# Wikimedia, IWF respond to block of Wikipedia over child pornography allegations
# Details emerge of Honda's withdrawal from Formula One
# New Zealand Parliament reconvenes after election
# Australian PM announces public affairs channelWhat I think would be needed is a rota where people sign up to edit at a given time.

What's the "Post" Craig? You mean the Mirror?
-
When do you think the Herald is going to get over this thing with Labour?
Er, never. It's a Tory paper, like the UK Sun and Daily Telegraph. Only thing is, the poms have a choice of buying the Guardian or Mirror. We don't. I haven't bought a paper in over a year and either get my news online or in cafes.
so which large chunks of the private sector in New Zealand are being saved by the "public service"?
Um, Air NZ and all the banks? And the construction industry?

Paisley, Florida, USA
That makes me want to visit!
Also, reminds me of a modernised song:
Old McDonald had a farm, 925200 -
Bloody non-Gamers.
I have this life thing, wierd though it might seem. Also, I dislike science fiction, linux, darkwave and a plasma telly is #32767 on my shopping list.
Does that make me geek-incompatible?
(BTW, if you like that stuff, I'm not dissin you. Each to their own, I say...)

What you can do, if a bit strapped for cash and needing more credit, is to ensure you max out the limit each month (groceries, work expenses, buying stuff for friends in return for cash, etc). Then put your salary cheque, overdraft and cash advances on other cards into paying it off in full. With three or more cards, you can keep this rolling quite easily.
The banks then see you as a high-spending good risk who always pays in full and up the amount.
Also, make a few mistakes when applying. Where they ask whether you own, rent, etc, tick "own" on the grounds that your parents own the house you live in. Use the parents address in a leafy suburb, not your own in the ghetto. When asked how long you've been working, take that to mean all jobs, not the current one.
If everyone did this, the banks would go bust due to lending money to dodgy credit risks. Oh, wait...

suddenly 7.95% doesn't look like a decent rate.
That rate included the expectation that rates were going to fall. That's one reason why it was cheaper than a floating mortgage.
Your house isn't costing you any more than it did on Wednesday. You just aren't getting it as cheaply as people who mortgage today.
We would be much better off if people regarded housing as an expense of life, not a magical way to make money without working.

I think a video game where the participants run amok in a shopping mall stealing household implements and using them to kill rivals would be lots of fun.
Getting a Flymo for the win!
