Another fortnight rolls on and I've been a bit reluctant to talk about Chch, given that I'm not - and wasn't - there... Bearing that in mind (and all other relevant disclaimers) may I just ask of Chch people:
We're now about, what? about 14 weeks out from an election. Is it an issue that certain commitments from govt./business/other should or must be extracted before then?

Allow me to dissociate myself from the idea that Mossad caused the earthquakes.

It seems to be a bit cavalier to allow open USB ports on machines with PNC access. Really, information like that should be on locked-down machines with no USB or drives, no internet connectivity and controlled access.
and why [-tf?] have they let someone who doesn't understand that do their security? Utterly amateurish.

On asking Max Cryer
At the age of about seven or eight, I wrote Max Cryer a letter complaining that he had incorrectly marked a contestant's answer wrong, and that the loss of the unjustly forfeited points had, in fact, cost that contestant the match.
He wrote back to say that, yes, they'd been made aware of that fact, but that since that had happened only after shooting was completed, there was no way to fix it. Somewhat disillusioned was I.

When is the fall out going to reach NZ?
Currently, the prime minister says that it's "not in the National interest" to talk about the police-central-server-illicit-data-capture scandal, but the Israeli ambassador has just been summoned to appear on Nine To Noon.

It's an unexplained/no-suspicious-circumstances-type death, ie suspected sucide/overdose
...according to the Met? Just saying, it's not the sort of situation in which you can be confident of police impartiality.
Agreed. Like I said, ", so... who knows either way, really?"

Anyone linked to this column yet?
Good stuff:
Twelve years later, in the summer of 2008, David Cameron was transported in a private plane – laid on by [Matthew] Freud – to the Greek island of Santorini, from where he was ferried to Rupert Murdoch's 184ft yacht the Rosehearty, for an important meeting. The following year, the Tories began to harden a new antipathy to the BBC, floating the freezing of the licence fee and urging the corporation to do "more with less": messages that were in accord with the chippy anti-BBC lecture James Murdoch gave at that year's Edinburgh TV festival. Just over a month later came achingly predictable news: that the Sun was swinging its support behind the Conservatives, and dumping Labour.
etc.
