  • Southerly: I Was Dissed By Three Old Ladies,

    It's Christchurch. Need I say more?

    Well, I was going to write a post about how Christchurch is the most violent City in New Zealand but not being James Bremner and this not being kiwiblog, I bothered to check my "Facts" first.
    Apparently the belief that Christchurch is a dangerous place is a misapprehension coming from the residents of that very City, a point made by New Zealand Police
    This illustrates a phenomena that is only too common, the white god fearing middle class feeling threatened by the yoof and gangs and drugs and "other" people.
    We all get old and yet we remain the same. We are born with a sense of entitlement, grow up with a sense of entitlement and grow old feeling that, by now, we must be entitled. In our little world, the British Commonwealth, the last people who actually deserved to be entitled to some kind of advantage are now over seventy, those that fought in the last word war and those that just went without to support the commonwealth.
    That sense of responsibility, selflessness and pride is, unfortunately, slipping into the past.
    Geez, don't I sound like an old reactionary fart?.

  • Hard News: A voice of reason and authority,

    After spending a few hours surfing popular comment forums, such as youtube, Digg and various news site comment areas I have come to the conclusion that the rabid right are a small but vocal segment. If you look at these and many other, sites you will find all the nutters and weirdos you could wish for, most are one time posters who have their little rant and move on. Not so with the Republican trolls who post over and over the same talking points. This gives the impression to the casual observer that there are a lot of these people out there, there are not. It is just a few blubbering noise makers whom nobody seems to take seriously. Thank goodness.

    @Craig. I think you will find that Sofie was referring to Mr Hide, he used to be Mr 3% but it would appear he has lost two thirds of his supporters. Cool. :-)

  • Hard News: A voice of reason and authority,

    I see a lot of people pulled over, but I believe the offence they have usually committed is Driving While Brown.

    Poor old Russell eh?
    Anypoo, Cellphone shmellphone. Any half decent phone these days has a built in mp3 player and some even have a wireless (radio for you young chumps). You can plug them straight into your car radio and get them to answer all by themselves, thus allowing the captain of a horseless carriage to converse in full glorious stereo and listen to tunes when not in use as a telephone. Far more dangerous by far are those other frightfully distracting things called babies. I suggest arresting anybody displaying those signs warning of child infestation.

    You have to laugh sometimes eh, Just read this in the Dom;

    "Mr Theobald has received a letter from human resources head Patrick Crawford.
    In it, Mr Crawford said: "Information has come to my attention which indicates that you may have intentionally driven a car through Inland Revenue's Christchurch building ... I am concerned that your conduct may be inconsistent with the Code of Conduct.""

    Love it.

    Well of course Jones. That article you linked to was from the British Medical Journal, what would they know about treating anything? Britain has "socialized" medicine how could they possibly treat anyone without first consulting an insurance company and putting the problem before the accountants? and how, may I ask, are the Pharmaceutical companies going to make anything if you don't use drugs as your first port of call in any procedure?.
    ;-)

    James, oh James. If only I knew what a hike weiner was and where I should take it? Maybe to the zoo or something, I just don't know. What I do know, of course, is that you are confused about a lot of things. Perhaps a little less Fox TV of an evening would be a step in the right direction.

    I thought a lumbar punch was the same as an epidural injection. Apparently not. Big deal Steve.

    Yes, you seem to think a lot of things are something completely different, eh?. And yes when you make shit up and get it totally wrong it is a big deal. It means you have not a clue as to what you are waffling on about.
    Go bail out another banker.

  • Hard News: A voice of reason and authority,

    When you have politicians, bureaucrats and unions involved, as you do in most national health systems, how can the consumer get a good deal? They are last on the pecking order.

    Let me rephrase that;
    When you have Accountants, Salesmen and Shareholders involved, as you do in the USl health system, how can the consumer get a good deal? They are last on the pecking order. Yeah, profits come first.

  • Hard News: A voice of reason and authority,

    . I slipped a disk in NZ, I waited weeks and weeks to see a specialist, and then was told that there was a 6 week waiting list to get a lumbar punch at Wellington Public (I paid to go private 2 days later). No thanks. Not doing that again. If you need a lumbar punch over here, you can get it done within a day or two.

    Which proves, beyond any doubt, that James makes shit up as he goes along his addled way.
    From Wikipedia

    In medicine, a lumbar puncture (colloquially known as a spinal tap) is a diagnostic and at times therapeutic procedure that is performed in order to collect a sample of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) for biochemical, microbiological, and cytological analysis, or very rarely as a treatment ("therapeutic lumbar puncture") to relieve increased intracranial pressure.

    Maybe the "Wellington Public" he refers to was a Public bar, who knows?.Hey, James, don't you dare come back here and use our publicly funded health care when your life turns to custard and your insurance company rips you off.
    You, my boy, have not a clue.
