This post was so.....yup, been there funny.
We used to live at no 26 knowles and had rival parties with the gladstone crowd flitting between addresses. funny thanks, recognised a few faces in clip, dont remember names.
I think the 26 house was built by the guy that founded readymix concrete and it had weird invisible flatmates. heard decades later that the guys daughter had some murder/suicide thing with her "coloured" lover/servant.
In general look back on those communal times with a fondness and wonder what happened to all those people we would have fought for.
Tis funny how urban parenthood removes that intense sense of family that developed in those big flats. -
Have to agree that RB's posts of Hard news helped catch nuance that us workin folk couldnt always hear on the b.
I recall being incredibly frustrated at the stupidity of the old xtra search and discovering this "google" one that delivered what I wanted to research at the time.
Scoop bought home the bacon thru 01/02 now seems to not be as diverse or as full of new content ( sorry alistair) btw, I still use it daily.
Herald gets a vote for saving trees but a big thumbs down for not having all content and "disappearing" articles such as the florida bush girls 3rd charlie conviction etc. -

I have to admit that the utterly absolutely crazy life and limb endangering stuff I did as a kid now gives me an understanding of why parents go gray. I didnt need the internets to learn how to make medium velocity explosives or really bad wine and my folks just sort of let me do it all. Man we have become so risk averse that I wonder what adventure beyond the couch and mouse our kids will get up to. We are socially obligated to remove risk where it is obvious but the darwin awards prove we havn't managed to remove it from human conciousness.
I think I see a consensus in that learning follows mistakes. Fortunately there are enough of us to allow some pruning and yes, it hurts, I have been in pain since age 13 from a jumping encounter with a rock in a dirty river. The analogy applies to many aspects of life, we are going to make fatal errors and no amount of nanny will stop it.
