Ok then,imho,
what JWL seems to be saying to the public at large is ,it's not about the money , it's not a call for a boycott, it's a request to the Actors (that has now grown into the "entire industry") to hold off on signing contracts so a few issues that seem to be basic human rights can get ironed out. Could be why the tight lips after the meeting in Grey Lynn.
What tends to have happened (in the past anyway) is if there is an issue (which in any other industry would be an employment right) a person has to go out in the cold to deal with it.Especially the long hours worked, public holidays etc. The perception quickly becomes (as has here) that everyone's livelihood is at stake and noone wants to be a part of anything that could upset the apple cart. If one does ,well jobs do become less frequent. So JWL must feel like she is out in the cold now. -
Interestingly, I understand that John Barnett is partially responsible for the lack of residuals in NZ as they were traded away in favour of increased up front fees back in the early 90s when actors were negotiating with SPP.

Serious question. Isn't this rather hard to do?. I suggest, most politicians have a keen interest in the local elections. Many of these people have close affiliations with our Govt, politicians. We all know to have your photo taken with the PM can be beneficial (read John Banks, Bob Parker) so even if subliminal, it is the PM endorsing these candidates and he knows that. He has even said that he doesn't agree with Anderton and his popularity has turned. He doesn't agree with Brown but gets on stage beside Banks for a smile and a wave, whilst after, saying he won't endorse anyone. So how much does it cost to send out 1000 emails, compared to say flying around the Country that just happens to let you use taxpayer funds but still does influence certain outcomes?
It does seem a bit hypocritical. -
