The wagyu special was excellent, thank you.
Congratulations (and I mean that in all earnestness) to Don Christie and Catalyst IT. Stuff cleaned up - no fewer than three awards including the grand prize.

That's kind of you to say, Deborah. If you haven't read the very first post in the archive, I'll be revisiting that in a couple of weeks for anniversary reasons.
Elsewhere, and in more of a Hand Mirror mood, have you read this tour de force in the Age?

I was making a funny
No shit.
I remember Russell once comparing his own "earnest" sto Slack's "clever".
Sorry to say I err on the earnest. Would like to be "clever" but marbles were in short supply round about '66.Jeez. I feel like I'm lining up with Damian for six of the best and I wasn't even at school that day.

bars you adhere to
My very first Wellington drink was in the public bar of the Barretts Hotel. My jandals stayed put at the first two strides, as I kept walking.
The one I worked in kept much better carpets.

My objection is the phoniness. Familiarity is fine with me if they're genuinely engaging with you. It's the kind of crap you see in the Office Space clip at the bottom of the post that I can live without.

I'm still vexing over that $30 steak
$31, to be precise.
Would sir care to see the menu?
Emma, isn't one of those Christchurch ones ground zero for the outbreak?

then there's "porno noodles" upstairs in the oaks centre.
Do you mean the one by pigeon park? If you do, that takes me back, young fella. In 1983, the restaurant upstairs there was one of the smarter places in town. It's where I first encountered deep-fried camembert.

Until just a few months ago, there was a brilliant restaurant directly facing Lone Star on Hauraki Corner. Ciao. An authentic Italian restaurant with great staff, fascinating food and an impressive cellar of Italian wine.
They had to close because the property is designated for road widening or something like that. They spent a long time looking for other premises but couldn't find anything that wasn't too expensive. They hope to find something within the next year - perhaps in Devonport, they told us on the last night, and I would cheer if that happened.

Paul, very glad to hear it turned out okay.
I remember the day we put Mary-Margaret in the car for the first time (which would be nine years ago today). I was bristling defensive hostility at every other driver on the road.
People have been very generous, both at the exhibition and online. Thank you.
Yesterday's Sunday Star Times ran a page of photos from the exhibition. Don't know if it's online.....

If you lose 10 kilos, how will we find you?
Just look for a nose in profile.
If it works out right, the weight will be disappearing from the emerging life-ring around my girth. They give you a heart attack, those things.
