  • Southerly: Even More Southerly,

There was a couple of interesting scientists living in Riverton by names of Kiri and Chris....welll they were living there a couple of years ago (2006) when I was riding a bicycle round the island. They were involved in measuring the rate at which NZ Forests act as carbon sinks. Well worth a yarn over a few fine boutique southern ales (which I was delighted to find of at the pub in Tuatapere).

  • Radiation: Desperate Heroes,

    What's the secret Jon?

I don't think there is a secret...I can recall being baffled about it a number of months ago when I saw that someone had managed to embed youtube in the public address system....infact I spent a bit of time attempting to "guess" if there was a tag or escape sequence that would allow the excessive long link with properties to be interpreted correctly , but the youtube links (& I think google video) are identified when you post a simple youtube url on public address and it then gets interpreted correctly.....( I wish I had another good vid to post just to show off!!! but don't)....pointing Fiona at some good TV

    One word: Heeeerrrrroooeeesss!

Pish...as awful as that rubbish X-men.

Charlie Brooker mocks it nicely in one of his screenswipes....think it's this one

Somehow I endured a Heroes episode, spent mainly wondering how TV had become sooooo bad.

Here's a pic (bandwidth allowing) of the London skyline.

  • Island Life: A tale of two Audreys,

Inside every chubby Londoner there may well be a svelte and stylishly-dressed Parisian wanting to get out, but I have my doubts.

I have my doubts too. In some cases I think there is more than one svelte Parisian waiting to get out.

You should see the cranes on the UK skyline.

I can and have just counted 61 of them on the horizon from a flat in North London . Sadly I cannot tell you if this is a low, average or high figure.

  • Island Life: Unfettered and alive,

Where can a person go when all the world cup shouting grows too loud? You might consider Paris. We have been here since Saturday and have encountered it only un peu. If they learn that we are New Zealanders, people seize it as a conversation point, but the nation is, as you probably would imagine, not gripped.

Spain and indeed Valencia was very much the same about the Amercia's Cup, yet the experience at the America's Cup complex was superb and bettered that of Auckland significantly.

From Metafilter here's a suprisingly stylish BBC documentary about the slaughterhouse. As much a social commentary than merely a documentary about an abattoir.
