    the fault finders

Pun intended? Cos, yeah, without wanting to play the blame game, it's easy to find fault(s) down here. ;-)

  • Hard News: The Minister's Brain Has Exploded,

This is a bit of a tangent but down here in Shakeytown we are relying on the Govt to help us rebuild our wrecked city...and it looks like they can't even organise a party in a totally intact city.

    Not inspiring confidence.

  • Hard News: Towards the Truth,

I don't know what to make of what I saw in the interview. I haven't read Hager's book, but I believe there are some very serious points to be answered. And yet I also believed Bruce Ferguson when he said he had no knowledge of the calculation and underhand dealing that's been alleged. But if he didn't know, then who did?

    Nonplussed!

  • Southerly: Tower Insurance Have Some Bad…,

    Just loving this copy:

New Zealanders can put behind them 12 months of despair caused by a devastating earthquake, tragic mine explosion and a fluttering economy to begin a six-week party as the All Blacks beat Tonga 41-10 in the opening match of the Rugby World Cup last night.

You know what? Cantabrians would LOVE to put “12 months of despair” behind us, unfortunately no amount of footy games can make our city magically reappear.

Would it have been so hard to say, “it’s been a hard year for NZ, but here’s a happy occasion”?

Sunday I'll be stalling for time at Linwood Market (8-1.30pm)

My first proper trip to the CBD was in late July. One of the most striking things I saw was a little thing: a copy of Feb 22nd’s Press sitting on the bar by the window of a closed-up cafe. The pages were dusty and yellowed. I peered though the glass trying to see what we’d thought was important on that morning. It seemed impossibly far away and long ago.

ETA: don’t know if it’s OK to put the photo here. If not, I quite understand.

Also I think it's different on a bike. You're out in the environment with everyone else, not shut away and anonymised in a car. If you ogle people, they'll ogle you right back. You can also stop anytime and talk to people. It's interactive.
