Plunket is a pretty lousy interviewer.
i'm glad you said that. he annoys the hell out of me

i also thought rod oram had some good points (in my opinion he's a pretty good commentator in general).
but i get the feeling that if we designed our cities, indeed if we built all our cultural icons etc, on a purely economic basis, we'd be left in a rather bland concrete jungle watching cheap american re-runs on the telly.
i'm sure an architect/urban designer could put that more eloquently.
anyway, i still think if it comes down to throwing big wads of cash around, the waterfront is a better place for it than eden park. i'm under no illusions that it'll pay for itself, indeed it'll probably end up being near a billion bucks. but we should have a relatively pretty stadium with some nice green areas and promenades which at least some of us would be proud of. and i'll be able to see where all my tax dollars went

waaaaaay back in the 80's when walkmans and double tape decks came out, did the recording industry get all up in arms about taping records and dubbing mix tapes for your mates?
not quite the same of course, though you could get quite good quality on those chrome and metal blank tapes eh

Argument against the economics of either stadium (but particularly against the waterfront option)...
Rod Oram interview on National Radio (18'52")
stadium economics don't work - public transport does -
Bart , we've already got the hosting rights , we dont need to 'build it and they will come ', they're already coming.
are you sure? I was under the impression we promised the irb a 60,000 seater as part of the deal??? this is an important point - anyone able to google this and find out?

although someone's parked a frigate beside the stadium
must be to scare the terrorists away -
stupid zoom-ins and slow-motion glow replays
...those squished slo mo replays in the first half were just plain wierd. oh well, La vie en noir - we still showed them a thing or two on the field
back to the stadium (groan...) there's some new pretty pictures up now

Even more worrying is that the All Blacks no longer looked the goods on the weekend.
We've been spoilt. A 23 - 11 victory over the winners of the six nations, is great by any standards. except our own, of course. sack the coach!

fair point, craig. is that what they mean by "statutory consents?"
Eden Park
Statutory consents are problematic given legal rights have accrued but not been exhausted through judicial process.
Likely to need to legislate for the stadium design option which best mitigates height/shading issue (i.e. $385M option).Stadium New Zealand
Statutory consents only realistic option in time available. Discussions with ARC and ACCv indicate that the negative environmental effects are “modest” relative to a residential development and could be substantially mitigated with sound planning.good old RMA eh. i guess it all depends on whether the local and government politicians feel that the majority of the population is behind them. we really should have been doing this five years ago

Herald = shitfight
sigh... yes. bloody sensationalist newsprint media. do you think, if NZ had an impartial bbc-style news service, would anyone would pay attention? or would it be too boring?
