  • OnPoint: What gorilla?,

There was a "Drivers of crime" conference recently which I believe came up with some ideas about that.

But having been at what was billed as a "Debate" between David Garrett and Kim Workman about the ACT 3 strikes policy, it seems the ACT view is that we have tried all of these liberal solutions to no success over the last 30 years.

The other side of this is of course that funding has only really been applied to prisons, with any rehabilitative efforts having to scratch together enough funding to keep going.

Seems to require different horsemen than we currently have on hand to get somewhere.

Russell, I think you have the first horseman correctly identified there.

Just wondering now what the others are.

  • Hard News: Mt Albert Old-School,

BTW how many public resources are required to send a fax these days?

I quite like the fact that it is not many, and then with careful targetting it gets widely distributed. Great leveraging!

  • Regard Auckland II: WTF?,

I went to Nikki Kaye and John Carters meeting this morning.

It was put to them that the Auckland electorates could be the basis for the community boards, that these could also be the electoral wards for the councillors for the supercity council, that this would help develop able local body politicians, that the Mayor could be selected from among the council, and would then be more effective.

These ideas were regarded as new by them, and they wanted anyone that said anything there to make a submission, to make these ideas less new I guess.

Also John Carter said many times that nothing beyond the fact that there will be a unitary body running Auckland is committed to yet.

There were about 12 of us at the meeting, including some who would be recognised in the community.

Interested to hear about any of the other meetings that seem to be the consultation we have.

  • Hard News: That Buzzing Sound,

Maybe its all just noise, so they can say they lost the Mt Albert by-election because of the Waterview motorway, and ignore the reaction to the super-city.

Then they can just rodney that through.

Thinking like that makes me wonder what may be behind the Christine Rankin smoke screen.

I was thinking The Harald was stretching the envelope with this one

Man dies in fire at yachtsman's property if you search for Coutts on the Harald website you can see they improved on it later.

  • Hard News: Rethinking the EFA,

Well there were certainly ads in the Listener asking us to consider various issues when we voted, and it was also good to see that they were placed by Michael Horton, so at least we saw who is trying to influence us with their money.

I vaguely recall that I saw a few 3rd party ads in the Herald too, also with attribution to who had paid for them.

Well it appears Barzini reads your posts and has already removed his user id.

What else did he edit that he wishes to keep from the light.
