  • Legal Beagle: Tastes like democracy,

"I also love the enforced silence on polling day."
    Gotta agree there.

They take down their signs the day before and it's over bar the shouting (later that night).

Also the one day every three years when the community cares about the elderly and lends a hand to include them in our world.

  • Hard News: Mo' Indexing,

" Well over 80% of the audience obliged and had the grace to look quite embarrassed when he informed them they'd just voted to ban peanuts."

And you won't find any in the air when you fly these days.

A ban of sorts - Bart vs Principle Skinner episode comes to mind.

  • Hard News: Improving quality by cutting service,

We had end of season dinners in honor of the Civil Servant who built the rowing pontoons & course at Ruataniwha. He lost his job over it but his pragmatism gave NZ world class infrastructure (at no cost ;).

There is a history of Rowing Officials dodgy dealing to 'get things done'.

I hope it was for the sport rather than himself, that would have him damned rather than praised.

RNZ changed their name a few years ago & my thoughts went initally went to Rail. maybe more unclear than missleading.

  • Hard News: Mo' Indexing,

This deprivation atlas is a little counter intuative.

Parts of Riccarton are at 7 & 9, sure. Bryndwr 2 ,Fendalton 3 & Deans Bush 1, OK, but Mona Vale 4?
Mona Vale is populated by palaces and is rated the same as Burnham Military Camp?

I must have missed what they're measuring.

$5 is a fair bet (I cried when they stopped 50cent betting at the races) but I'm not equating anyone with George Bush.

I'm a little concerned with the name calling of John Key as 'slippery'. It's evocative of quite a bit of English literatures anti-semitism.

Anyone up for a $5 bet Key won't last the 1st term whether he wins/loses/draws the election?

To me the 'Leadership' issue is to attack Clark, as there is a large portion of the electorate simply tired of her & Labour has no succession planning.
Key has no past, Statehouse kid made good & he's been overseas far & long enough that there are no stories to come back. I doubt he has it in him to fend off the ambitions of those around him.

I'ld be concerned about the selling of our birth right - water.

We can't go for transferable allowances, like fishing. Ownership & the right to use water needs to come & return to the community, National or Regional.

We need to wait 10-20 yrs for the "Free-Marketeers" to die off, but those concepts need to seen to be dead and then buried.

And I call Theatre on Phil Collins, please no more.

  • Speaker: What goes on tour,

I'ld just like to draw a little line in the sand between Cowan being a drunken asshole with an anger problem & the actions of the 4 English players.

I don't think he was set up, his photo ended up in the paper because they print it once a week anyway. This time though it was the front page not the back page.

Cantabs tamed Marshall, if Cowan f&*ks up again he should buy a ticket to France/Irelnad/Italy.
