  • Field Theory: They're talking to you,

The reason for waning interest in rugby (as it's the best example) is clearly spread far and wide. You have it more or less inaccessable to around 50% of the population, you have games on at night which cuts back on family numbers, and those who prefer not to be sat in 5 degree temperatures in the rain, and you have such a vast amount of it that games lose significance and once people realise that then they stop caring 100% about whether they watch the game or not and start caring 73.4%.

I hear this time and again but I'm yet to bump into these people who are apathetic to rugby. Even the scene art/emo kids at work follow rugby. 50% of the population don't have access? Last time I checked [which was about 5 minutes ago, given my occupation] rugby, cricket, tennis, bowls, racing, yachting and athletics commentary is still given for free on both BSport and Radio Sport. Or it's free to go to your local pub and sit on a glass of water for the duration of a game [which we employed to great effect during the RWC of first year.]

That's awesome that he replied, but I wonder what would happen if he were to leave the Jets? Do people like him because he twitters his fans, or do people like him because he plays for the Jets and has twitter?

That Twenty20 mic'ed up stuff is crap. Go back 20 years to Bathurst and watch Seton, Brock, etc give interviews while driving with one arm out the window. Brilliant...

  • Field Theory: My first cricket match,

Yeah I didn't go on Weds because I figured I'd save myself for the test. I'd much rather go when you know you've got a full day of boozing ahead of you than face the possibility of seeing a 10 over ODI. [Note to non-Wellingtonians - Wellington in late Jan/Early Feb sees zero clouds and scorching temperatures. No breeze either.]

Sledging is awesome, but power plays seem lame to me. How about a power play where the batsman has to bat one-handed, or the bowler can only skip?!

And let's not forget Ntini too, who to be realistic cannot bat

What about his two fours off successive balls? Let's face it, we just want Ntini in our own team.

I still don't get why people would throw away their beer.

At least they've stopped throwing it at the actual players.

Incidentally, I was at that Saints/Waikato final last year

Don't you mean Saints/Giants? Or am I getting confused? I thought Nelson won :L

Looks like Wellington is going to live up to the 'Fine and cloudy periods. Strong, gusty northerlies.' forecast.
    Yeah right.

Felix, are you the same F Marwick of Newstalk ZB?
