I see that the PM has borrowed Bob Parker's orange jacket and has now become a mining expert.
But not surprising as there will be serious questions now about the future of the mining industry in NZ, and the NZ public's support for it (especially this mine which is in a national park). Coal from that mine has been virtually pre-sold for the next several years to overseas countries such as China and India. The government will be very concerned that the industry continues.

I don't think it is ineptitude, I think it is a lack of understanding of ethical concepts such as conflict of interest and the boundaries between governance and management. Here is another situation of government ministers getting too cosy with those receiving public money. Exposed by good reporting.

Quote from Temple Grandin (autistic designer of slaughterhouses) in the movie Temple Grandin, 'nature is cruel, but we don't have to be'.

Talk among those who know these things is that there are also some goings on to be investigated in 'Ethnic Affairs', where she was apparently a very hands on minister.

We don't really know the full context, only what has been reported, so we should be suspicious. Personally, I think this whole thing show up how stupid uniforms are and how they get in the way of good teacher student relationships. These parents seem unusual in that they seem entirely happy with their 14 year old's attitudes and behaviour (I 've yet to find any other parents who are). NZ research also shows that boys tend to push boundaries in behaviour and girls do it through uniform.
But the slut comment is something else, whatever the context. My good friend at school was already unhappy as a 14 year old and slut comments directed to her (from students not staff) pushed her into severe depression. Words wound.

So what font do you like to use currently for your power point? I'm not surprised that there is great diversity of font preference considering that we all have individual vision preferences and assume others see what and how we see. My colleague's father has made a life's work out of designing type faces and the children have one named after each of them. I quite like this clear one that you write your post in, but don't like the one it transforms into for the public thread.
I still think comic sans is a non-threatening inclusive font, good for information sheets. Like plain language, it can be readily understood by children.

But Stephen, you are a sentient human being exercising choice of occupation. The fish getting chomped by a bigger fish is more instinctive survival stuff.
But I think I will bow out of this discussion as none or us are likely to change our positions. And I don't want to get on to bull fights or sow crates - or whaling.

My father loved fishing, which he managed to do about once a year on holiday, and occasionally caught a fish. Some of my earliest memories are watching distressed fish flapping and dying on the rocks. I understand about fishing being a great contemplative experience, and that catching and eating fish part of the cycle of life, but I am uncomfortable about using those nasty hooks, just in case it really is very painful for the poor fish. Isn't there a kinder way to catch and kill the fish you need, without it becoming a blood sport?

So you are unlikely to turn vegetarian then?
