Not a happy metaphor. At all.
It's a literary device. See Unreliable narrator.

Until I started reading this thread, I thought that Tony Veitch was the slapper weather-lady from TV3.
Hey, If you don't even know who Toni Marsh is, then why call her a slapper?

I think the media needs to take a good hard look at itself...
If newspaper editors aren't already ashamed of themselves, I struggle to imagine what it might take.

I hate that Gorilla ad. What kind of moron pays many tens of thousands for In the Air Tonight and then puts the key drum fill in the wrong place?

As soon as I find out what a chav is I'm going back to work.
Pretty sure it's like some London version of "white trash".

.... a tune of narcotic musical and lyrical banality.
You've just not seen it done right.

Probably no one gives a rat's ass, but I'll mention it anyway. The last season of NYPD Blue (I've been following it for about 14 years, now), is back on, after being dumped mid-season for Underbelly. Tuesdays, 3, @ about 11.15. Second week back, so I guess about 5 eps. left.
It still makes every cop show but The Wire look like a pile of puke.

I literally fell asleep during that Bones ep.; mind you, that was partly because of Federer-/-Nadal-induced jet-lag. That was one hell of a match. Prime has taken something of a hit in the last few days, what with Desperate Black Wives II and all, but props to them for their Wimbledon coverage.

"Time for a change" doesn't really quite nail the reason. It's more like an expression of general powerlessness, in a time of fear about fuel prices, food prices, social changes, etc., etc. Even though the Govt. (any Govt.) can't do much about many of these things, re-electing the encumbents seems a bit like doing nothing, whereas kicking them out sends a message.
Also, there's a lot of truth in this (5 Mb video download).

What do Sanitarium Weetbix do?
