John's jumping at shadows frankly (and last count QPEC would struggle to fill a small lounge room with its 'members').
The curriculum may conceivable consist of millions and millions of words, each of which might give rise to some personal offence, but Minto sees something sinister in one word because of some supposed association with business. He sees business as a dirty word and wants us to also - who's then trying to skew the curriculum to a narrow world view? Should kids only learn about the agrarian economies of pre-industrial society? FFS, I hope my kids read the classics, are bored by trigonometry, develop religious tolerance, play a dozen sports, develop inquiring minds and write appalling haiku as well as develop an appreciation for the role of commerce.
Sorry John, but unless you develop a more sophisticated approach to advocacy, don't expect anyone to take you seriouesly.

Could someone please tell me when the grown-ups are back in charge of National Radio, because even there the line between post mortem and necrophilia is looking mighty thin.
I don't understand this but its still damn funny.

How about a new thread... which All Blacks will be there for the next Cup?
At least Hayman and possibly Woodcock though probably not any of the hookers. Williams probably, and McCaw and Collins. In the backs, Leonard, Carter, McAlister (if he comes back in time), Evans and Toeava... not a bad start and doesn't include a few others like Smith (nor Nonu, Weepu, Eaton or the Ginga...)

__Erm, aren't the players being "gracious" because they're contractually obligated to?__
Which marks the official point at which this thread has made me more depressed than the actual match result. Cheers.
I couldn't see where this had been said, however I think it's BS. Watch the footage of the All Blacks' comments and decide for yourself. I can only see their disappointment with not having won the game - the earlier comment is too cynical I feel.
BTW, I've now rewatched the game enough times to think that the carding of McAlister was fifty:fifty rather than a straight out refereeing error however the pass should have been picked up by someone. Also the comment, a long time back about McDonald being lost at this level, is a bit rough. His game goes off a little after he's injured in the first French try - he stayed on the park probably because Evans was back up to Carter - all the more reason that Howlett should have at least been on the bench.
And with that, I think I need to move on with thanks to RB, the dropkicks and all other commentators.

I just checked Barnes' record. It's much worse than I thought.
Before this tournament started, Barnes had controlled ONE game at the highest level: France vs Italy in last year's Six Nations
His three other tests were in last year's Pacific Five Nations.
WTF?
Barnes appears to be the new golden boy in English rugby, so presumably there was politics involved, but there's something badly wrong there.
You're shitting me! I'd have thought the four quarters would be reffed by the four top refs with whatever allowances for potential conflicts of interest - is this guy really one of England's top refs?

Disappointment is part of the human condition, so - it appears - is an wretched lack of proportion. Sorry, but I'm (perhaps disproportionately) narked off at hearing nonsense like we're all in a state of national mourning and losing a football game is any kind of 'national disaster'. Even on the level of headline hyperbole, that's so far over the top (IMO) its distasteful.
Perhaps so, but I've not seen such language here... I'm not mourning, I'm pissed off, I'm disappointed and I'm a little angry but I've had a great day in the park with my youngest and a nice meal so all-in-all it's been a nice day (and not too hot).
Its a bloody thankless task
Hang about, they're paid a fortune and are professionals - we're not talking about the 13th nursery here, we're talking about a bloke who's made his career out of blowing a whistle.
Let's agree to disagree, I know where you're coming from and 'spect vice vera.

all of this is just deeply tedious for those of us not invested in the sport, so there's always going to be a certain level of glee from us when the whole thing collapses so spectacularly.
I gettit too, but this is becoming a referendum about rugby rather than, what I'd hoped for at least, might be a therapy session ...

I take my politics as seriously as some people take rugby and put an enormous amount of time and effort into campaigning last time around. Really awful 'losing' by a little over two points, but sadly that's the way it turned out and just got over it. Some folks didn't, but must admit anyone who puts the words 'stolen' and 'election' next to each other lose my attention.
Bugger, you'd already told me off!
Hey, I take my politics seriously too - I don't always agree with your argument but you often make reasonable points - but this discussion didn't appear to be about politics? It was about rugby.

Now, Russell - I don't particularly "care about the game", and am perfectly well aware that lots of people do. But I'd respectfully suggest that nobody thinks basic good sportsmanship is a matter of 'theory' when a ref being assaulted by an unhinged spectator-parent, or some game degenerating into a brawl hits the papers. Nor do I think it's anything to sniff at when clubs and rugby as a whole actually decide they're not going to tolerate 'thug-by' bullshit either on or off the field.
Craig, at the risk of incurring a telling off, what has your comment above got to do with the game this morning? Why do you object to others' disappointment?

Paul: In a slightly different context, you bet your arse I was gutted like a freshly caught fish when my 'side' lost the last election. Didn't mean I couldn't accept Labour just got more fucking votes in a free, fair and properly run election - and was far from impressed by the lung-busting post match hysterics from the usual suspects. I actually don't think you throw around allegations of electoral fraud and corruption lightly.
Craig, I don't know to what you're referring. Almost all of the comment I've seen here is pretty understandable disappointment. We are still talking about the rugby aren't we? WTF has the last election got to do with it?
And when I've seen ten year olds handle lose a football match with considerably more maturity and grace than I've seen from their alleged elders and betters today, I respectfully suggest the 'irony' is not mine.
Is it McCaw, McAlister, Carter or Henry you think have thrown this hysterical wobbly? I think you're jumping at shadows.
