Sorry, Not Important (I'm sure you actually are), but who cares if they're not hiding who they are - of course they're not - they want votes!
But they only tell half the story - mostly that the whole conflict of interest thing was dealt with by the Auditor General and dismissed and that there was no personal gain. It's Karl Rove type politics by Bhatnagar, who is well known for this type of baseless mudslinging, and William Cairns, ex-Auckland Now bullyboy.

I wonder if the "consociational" system is a product of the society that looks after its kids, or is it that the "consociational" system produces the society that looks after its kids?
On another rather horrifying note - the rate of young Maori (men?) leaving school without qualifications was appalling - but then I read that overall 20% of (male?) youth leave without qualifications. Surely this is a scandal worthy of a Keys speech?

Perhaps the webmaster could consider putting up a cancellation service on the site for those who have to pull out at the last minute? - Russ?

Talk of the iconic status of the stadium that will really "...put Auckland on the world map..." - can anybody else name an iconic sports stadium that has done this? Art gallery...yes (assorted Guggenhiems). Office building...yes (Empire State, Chrysler, Sears Tower, etc...). Sports stadum...mmm...not really. Munich (perhaps...and perhaps for all the wrong reasons). does anyone know what the Olympic Stadium in Sydney actually looks like?
Of course, there's always a first time but it would have to be such and architectural masterpiece which, I have to say, the current design is not.
I am reminded of an encounter I had with a group charged with promoting Taumaranui . Their solution was to build a giant flat white cup, as the milk from Taumaranui was supposed to produce the best froth. The vision was that people would come from all over the country to see it.

I agree with that. Why has no debate and investigation gone into the minimal cost for Eden Park?
... $400 million is hardly minimal.

Surely the decision to go ahead with the waterfront is not reliant on what happens above the platform to be built. Can we not decide to go with the waterfront option and then spend a couple of years debating the design of the stadium itself while the platform is built?
However, given the rather dismal. bleak, empty and windswept end of Princess Wharf, are we risking the same with a public promenade around the stadium? At the least it would need to be landscaped to provide a nicer destination than what has happened on Princess Wharf.
Eden Park is still faced with the fact that it is in a suburban environment which, let's face it, is crap. And there's no atmosphere anyway.
Carlaw Park gets my vote.

Surely there's a middle road - sell fireworks but only allow them to be let off on the one night. Or let organised local community groups apply to have local fireworks sessions. Anything to keep them out of the hands of bloody louts who made last weekend like a holiday in Beirut and will continue to do so for the next three months until they finally run out...and then find another bloody box of the cursed things in time for New Year's Eve.
