If that scheme was adopted to motorsport, I'd make one change:
Every single competition in the world has this points structure:1st: 1,000,000,000 championship points.
2nd: 10 championship points.
3rd: 2 championship points. Then you'll see people actually going for it, instead of getting mid-way through the season and going '5th is good enough'.

I know it's really PC-crazy, but my first thought when seeing an ad for the Rose Bowl in the Dom this morning [Women's Cricket. It's a lot better than men's synchronised swimming] was 'would it be sexist if it were the other way around?'

I would LOVE IT if my taxpayer dollar went to Elephant-based team policing. Love it.
Jesse Ryder crowd dispersal programme.

@Hadyn: Maybe chocka is referring to the fact that the Phoenix can't keep any of their [in some cases good] players.

I forget who, but one of them was suggesting that the stance & throw of Broom's runout indicated that the Blackcaps might have had some training from someone involved in Baseball.
Correct me if i'm wrong, but haven't we had that training happening for over a year now?
Worse than that, it's the same guy that Australia use.

If you took American football, and both made the players play both ways, and reduced the breaks, it clearly wouldn't be rugby. It would be American football with some minor rule modifications. Indeed, the game would largely look the same, the players would just have to play it a little differently.
And a much reduced audience. Why would we want to change American Football to be like rugby? Is rugby superior in some way? Best game ever? Or should we change rugby to be like American Football? Why not have hockey players use cricket bats instead? Basketball and netball are similar, but they're not the same, but still, why not have a three-point line put in place in netball?
Because they're all different sports, even though they appear to be the same...

Jake, if I could pay you for that excellent write-up I would. Until the day I move to the US, consider this a legally-binding IOU for a beer.

Also yes they could play both sides of the ball
There just doesn't seem to be any point to having completely different offense/defense
I'm being pedantic here, but don't Guards and Tackles often play both sides of the ball?

then barks out some string of words that tells each player what they need to do (that's all the "zulu 25 break zoom 3 texas" stuff).
Or if you're Peyton Manning you do this from the time the play ends, all through the huddle, then again at the line until the clock reaches 2... Every. Single. Play.

There is nothing better on earth than a sports commentator freaking out and losing his mind like that. Nothing.
You said it all.
And here's the reason that Twenty20 mic'ed up stuff doesn't work, it's all just PR [even on the beach cricket!]. Get some egos and personality's in the mix!
