Oh, I know they won't be ashamed.
I also know that I'm the one who decides what's important for me to talk about, thanks.

Are you serious? She ought to be ashamed of herself for writing it and the Herald ought to be ashamed of itself for publishing it.
I'm not of the opinion that we should not "speak ill of the dead," but Deborah Hill Cone's article was unnecessary, tone-deaf, and just plain nasty.

Hard News: Making it up on smacking, in reply to
I can say with almost complete confidence that my life would have been better had my father been investigated, charged and convicted for smacking me and my brothers.
In fact had it been an option there's a chance I'd have shopped him myself.
It is neither safe nor logical to assume a child is more frightened of the police taking their parent(s) away than they are of the parent(s) themselves.

Writing fuck, is not actually an all that intelligent way to express angor.
On the contrary, dropping the occasional F-bomb is sometimes the most succinct and impactful way to express angEr.
Having a good swear has been shown to reduce pain levels (for instance after hitting your thumb with a hammer) as long as it's not overdone. I see no reason to believe emotional pain is any different.
I'm also amused by the way that people who get all prissy about swearing are the ones cutting themselves off from an interesting and useful subsection of English vocabulary on the pretension that it makes them "more intelligent."

Yet we don’t expect all medical professionals to start out as orderlies or nurses.
Frankly I think it would make for better doctors if all of them had to spend a year doing a nurse's duties.
But that's all I have to say on this particular derail. We now return you to your regularly-scheduled programming.

As you see complaints from Saudi Arabia of woman in full burqa’s still being molested on the street.
It's their fault for being out in the streets instead of at home, the slags.

Thank you to all the men in the thread recognising in their comments the culture change needed.
Yes. It's balm to my aching heart.
Thank you, all of you.
You are making things better for our sons as well as our daughters.
