Wind-up gramophone at 78rpm with crackly needle - but you try telling the kids of today that!! Them and their fancy portable I-p3 players.....

  • Hard News: Just shoot me,

Way back before blogging and the interweb, when computers ate cards that you were sternly warned not to 'bend, fold, spindle or mutilate' my loving mother used to submit some of my more pithy sayings and childish actions to 'Over the TeaCups' in the NZ Womens' Weekly. Do you think I have a case for suing them both?

  • Up Front: The Missus,

As a father of 4, grandfather of 7, and one great grandson, I love 'em all BUT
    WHY do we have children????

I suspect the gentleman has grand-children staying for the school holidays and is getting rather weary....

  • Southerly: Another One for the Kids,

Ahh ...made me remember the film Ring of Bright Water as a tear came to my eye.

Aaahhhhh, deeply repressed memories of a school holiday matinee at the Ambassador picture theatre in Pt Chevalier.... myself and a load of other bawling children having our holiday ruined - or that day at least.

The other film I remember seeing a number of times (with a memorable water scene) was 'McKennas Gold' - a great Western with Gregory Peck, Omar Sharif and Telly Savalas. Simpler times when we used to play Cowboys and Indians....

  • Hard News: Birth of the Nasty,

Or better, if you can combine it all into one sensational story: "Britney murdered over drunk kitten escapade!"

You'll never get that in the Herald on Sunday. Where's the property angle?

"Britney murdered in Parnell mansion by secret lesbian lover over drunk kitten escapade!"

  • Hard News: They can see your house from here,

When did Google take these images, how does that work?

I saw the GoogleVan driving along Pt Chevalier Rd last Friday, and Norfolk St Ponsonby yesterday afternoon - no idea if they were taking images at that particular moment, or in transit from somewhere else....

I've searched my own address, and they seem to only take images every two hundred metres or so along the street, so I'm still reliant on the sattelite/aerial views to check out my own humble abode.

  • Island Life: See Waiheke before you die.,

Although thinking about it, OAPs don't rate so well. We may need a party to implement free travel cards for hot people.

And now that I think about it a bit more, now that the buggers are mobile instead of sitting in front of daytime TV, perhaps we have lost the target audience.... unless we can fit it in to the 7.30pm time-slot on non Coro St days.... or tie it in to Coro St somehow. A distant relative is a scriptwriter there... I'll see what I can do!

  • Island Life: See Waiheke before you die.,

Was going to pop over to Waiheke this morning using my Gold Card, but um hard to access from Blenheim.

I'd be interested in how far a card carrying OAP could get in one day - the length of the country?

Maybe someone could organise a race.

I bags the copyright for "World's Greatest OAP Race" - what a gripping TV series this would be!! Formulaic television and a chance to sell New Zealand's green and pleasant scenery to the world when the series gets sold abroad!!

  • Cracker: Every Time A Coconut,

I don't know who it was that said "kindness is its own reward", but they were just being a tight-arse. Actually, it sounds like the sort of thing my father would say, along with some other rubbish about how "every day is Kids' Day" when we'd ask about Mother's or Father's Day.

Excuse the diversion from your worthy competition, but either we have the same dad, or your is a long-lost twin brother of mine....
