It was a jolly day - far too bloody hot of course (does it get hotter every year?!), but then I was one of those jammy gits enjoying the lush (read: air-conditioned) environs of the East Stand Lounge in between forays into the wild...
Highlight #1: Arcade Fire; watching the 'sea anenome'-style action of punters' arms to Shihad #2; and LCD Soundsystem will go down as one of those dancefloor moments you remember for life.
Best sight of the day: a peroxided Perez Hilton looky-likey chap in pale pink tights sporting extensive sweatstains from groin to kneebone. Moist gusset! And how! (It remains to be seen whether he got a fuck bitch.)

Not to say I don't always love my job as a PR strumpet (because I do - go the dark side!), but last night really topped it all...
The most poignant moment for me was halfway through one of the Clean's most epic of tracks (Point That Thing?) when I was getting all nostalgic and emotional (as oft happens with The Clean) - and I glanced over to see Russell with his arms around Fiona, both sporting the world's most enormous grins. Magic. As Morrissey might say, my cheeks were moist.
Thanks all. The calculations are yet to be finalised but I can tell you an *incredible* amount was raised for Russell and family. People are pretty wonderful sometimes. xxx

You're quite right, The E, it's early in the morning and my brain isn't working apart from in rant mode... Free movies = all good.
For the record, I share similar 'emperor's new clothes' concerns about Thank You For Smoking - did anyone else really not notice it was feelgood, moralistic dross masquerading under the guise of (poorly-executed, American-style) 'irony'?

Personally, I'm still living in hope that one day someone will explain Little Miss Sunshine to me, cos I just don't get it. Surely one of the corniest, most stomach-turningly saccharine films of the last decade? The Northern Bastard and I laughed precisely twice, as I recall, while fighting each other for the sick bag.
(And do you need to know an Oscar winner to review these films or could you have just gone down the road to the local moviehouse and watched them there? ;)

And not forgetting the Enz' valiant attempt to promote conservation of New Zealand's native insect population:
