Took a few snaps of the remaining City Centre
Good one Gudrun.
This view is the old Press site looking from Gloucester across once-was-Press and Worcester st to the Provincial Government buildings.

Also that, as the most numerous breed of dog in New Zealand, the labrador is not the ideal cafe companion. My girl fixes eaters of cake or bread with an imploring and manic eye, following every move near a plate or a mouth; sighs audibly as she is ignored; grunts in a long displeased honk; and finally harumphs down on her belly, nose between legs with a crocodile's wily eyes, just hoping for a crumb. If she is really being disgusting she drools, ribbons of it. Needless to say we do not take her near cafes or other people's kitchens. We have to watch her near small children, else she mesmerizes them and steals their food.

Hah! I was there at that spot today. Are they aloes, or yuccas? I noticed some bigger plants had names carved into the big leaves, sort of green grafitti. Sumner was beautiful: sunny, sparkling and warm after the first frost in town. Hope you are okay tonight Lilith. An upside of the shakes for me is that Sumner is less frantic and more funky, a bit like the 70s and 80s.

Mmm, sounds like I could have a midwinter Viennese-ish excursion without the airfare -- art, food, shops, coffee, poking about in alleyways. Sounds alluring.

t the weather
What is a good time of year to visit? My impression is of a bigger, more sophisticated Wellington with a funky edge.
