Harden up.
Yeah.
Back when I was a kid, we lived in uninsulated houses, ran up huge deficits, spent big on 'essential' infrastructure projects, and made promises about superannuation that locked in future Governments for decades to come.

Those over 65 increased by 2.5% in New Zealand last year, according to Stats NZ. That scale of increase is going to continue for a while.

They've cut a lot of things, but one thing they're spending large on is roads.
$10.7 billion of roading projects.

People, this is what Auckland will look like if we take off our helmets. If they can fantasise, so can I.

Does the public highway have a dress code?
Don't suggest it. The Crusher might get ideas.

I can remember how intense the 2004 Hikoi was, and what a rush of feeling there was. A feeling of power and resistance, anger and calm, under soft warm rain. It was fairly indescribable (at least beyond my modest means). I can only imagine this one was somewhat similar.
But am I the only one who's not greatly comfortable with people wearing scarves over their faces?
I don't think you are. It can be pretty poorly received, and dilute the impact by distancing the people from the public - sometimes that's the intention. Ultimately however it's up to people to make their own decisions about how to present themselves, and what to wear. It's a public protest after all.
What's interesting is how taiaha aren't considered threatening, despite being fairly lethal weapons. You wouldn't get the same reaction carrying a baseball bat to a protest and I guess they're seen as merely ceremonial and symbolic.

A friend of mine has put up a really good photo-set of the Hikoi. Worth a look.

BTW I find this campaign tinged with irony, helmet or no helmet
No helmet, please.

I share a feeling of disquiet that they are getting an early look though - that's just taking the obsession way to far.
And to the point, that's what we have Treasury for. They're effectively outsourcing Treasury advice.
It looks like I was not sufficiently ambitious for New Zealand in my previous post. Outsource the entire public service.

Sell & lease-back the Beehive
Real estate is cheaper in the Hutt Valley. Come to think of it, it's cheaper offshore.
Outsource Parliament to Bangalore. Essential functions will of course be retained at head office.
