You're also at risk not wearing a helmet in a car, and a lot more people die from head injuries in cars than on pushbikes. Do you wear a helmet in your car?

Hang on Ben, a lot more people use cars everyday. What are the relative injury rates ? And, no, I don't wear a helmet in a car, but always when on a bike.

Graeme - thanks for another enlightening post, and also your attention to answering questions posed. I've learnt a lot about the US election process in the last couple of months from reading this blog.

... A role they played in 1984, when they gave the nomination to insider Walter Mondale over insurgent Gary Hart. ...

And Mondale went on to lose. Has there been a case, similar to the one that you described, where the super-delegates effectively changed the nomination, and that nominated person went on to win?

  • Random Play: They will come, so build it.,

A man at the Britomart Transport Centre told me this morning that they are having difficulty sourcing parts for the clock, and they have no idea when it will be working again. The clock on the Ferry Building seems to be working again though.

Thanks Russell for a good response to IO's response to my Eden Park transport comment. The CBD is also where most of the visiting team's supporters will be staying, so they can walk as well.

the horse has been flogged, died, and buried!"

unfortunately, yes it has (but now I've had the last word!)

If we can't get the clock outside Britomart on the old Post Office to tell the correct time, what chance have we of getting the harbour redevelopment right?

Agreed - and the hands on the Ferry Building clock havn't moved for a few weeks either!

Slarty - you were not alone, I supported it as well. Having struggled getting to/from Eden Park for the last 2 international cricket matches (and trying to get food and drink at the Twenty20), the rubbishing the proposal got still annoys me.

  • Island Life: More time with the family,

A bit late into the conversation re homework, but this week at my kids primary school the parents were told by the Principal that homework is NOT compulsory, so cannot be enforced.

A recent survey of parents showed huge variations of expectation - from wanting no homework to 2 hours per night! As a result of the survey, the school has cut back on the amount to be set by the teachers. It generally consists of reading, with the occasional bit of project work, and only 4 nights per week.

We were also told about the studies that showed that the amount of homework had no influence on achievement. Basically if kids are doing well at school they will do the homework well, and vice-versa.

This is all from a good school with an ambitious headmaster, and one that does well in comparisons with other schools.

Perhaps you could get Cr Aaron Bhatnagar (who helped defeat Richard Simpson in the last local body election) to comment and see what his vision for another harbour crossing is.
