Hi Ben, you mean solutions such as this one?
(Kiwirail ink refers to building of logging loading facilities at Tangawai)http://preview.tinyurl.com/22p2xej
Can't remember where, but I'm sure I heard recently that it had already paid for itself.

Re the bigger trucks, we live fairly close to both the railway and SH1. A few times a day, the trains go past, pulling anything up to 30 wagons and containers. Often, on the way north, those wagons are empty, being pulled back for their next load. All pulled by one loco.
It occurred to me the other day, when I was being overtaken by a monster truck going up the Kilmog, that most of the trucks going north are probably empty also. Each with their own engine and huge dose of intimidation...

I think, given the climate they operate in, turning things up to 10 most of the time is understandable. Not always *helpful*, but very understandable.
I started reading both Real Climate and Hot Topic from the beginning, and I'm pretty sure they both stated that they were going to engage sceptics in reasoned discourse and keep cool under all circumstances. When I read the baiting comments, especially on Hot Topic, I'm not surprised they don't always succeed.

Re driving aimlessly, we drive so little now - about once a week, through a conscious effort to use other forms of transport - that when we do take the car out now, we make a point of taking a circuitous route and exploring the rural roads around our new environment. Much goodly plum and apple preserving has resulted, as well as a real sense of getting to know our neighbourhood. Perhaps it's not so aimless after all.
Claire Browning wrote a lovely recent piece on driving aimlessly here.

My cross-post - Y'all know about the anti-mining petition active for about another month, don't you? Download it, take it out and get some signatures.

Cecelia and others who are tearing their hairs out - you can download a petition here and get as many signatures as possible before mid-April to let Gerry know how you feel.

Beautiful Russell! Banks is working hard on broadening his appeal, isn't he? The irony is delicious, but I had to turn the radio off, I can't listen to him saying anything.

What's this about having to book a year ahead for the Otago rail trail? In my experience, you just DO it, and there should be a bit more accommodation available than 4 years ago, which was our last effort.

Here, this vote is rigged. I suggested "Supersorry" on the original thread, and it hasn't turned up in the options. Who's bribing the webmaster?
