Giving the newlyweds some context. They are Ty and Renee Ziegel. The Times tells their story, and there's more of Nina Berman's photos.

that wedding photo breaks my heart
It shocked then saddened me, but then I noticed that the bride's bouquet matched the crimson trim on her dress. So while things are going to be a little tougher for them than for other newlyweds, they still have little pleasures to enjoy.

I like a good, gay musical - I've lost count of the number of times I saw Evita and Chicago - so I was looking forward to Dreamgirls,... but I was really disappointed by it!
There was only one good song ("And I am teeeeeling yew"). Everything else was just frou-frouing about with wigs and frocks.
I'm so disappointed with how displeasing it was. I think I might have to watch that High School Musical thing to get my musical fix.

Whenever you run a piece of software for the first time it asks whether you really want to run it.
Curiously enough, I've never noticed this on my Mac. I'm sure it happens, but I guess it doesn't bother me so I don't consciously notice it.
All these Windows messages sound annoying. They should have a setting that lets advanced users switch to a lower level of messages - only telling you if something's gone wrong, for example.

I've been reliant on public transport since I crashed my car (awesome) and then sold it in 2004.
I'm lucky that I live on a major bus route so getting to work is easy, but I've also ended up doing a lot of walking around because sometimes buses are late or infrequent (especially on weekends).
But as useful as Auckland's buses are, I've experienced Melbourne's tram and light rail system and it's just so much better. There's something much more personal and appealing about light rail.
In Melbourne, I'd go out to the Ikea store via a tram, train and foot. When Ikea opens in Auckland, I wonder if it will be even possible to visit it by public transport?
Politicians aren't going to change anything without major public pressure. Let's keep pushing.

the "Bring Back Queen" upgrade...what a joke!
What puzzles me about this the most is that amongst the new blue stone pavers, there appear to have been areas left (or repaved) in the old pink ones. I wonder why.
I'm not convinced that new street paving will liven up Queen Street. Newmarket, for example, has shitty old cobblestones all around its streets, and yet it's a far more pleasant place to spend an afternoon than Queen Street.
Queen Street was almost reduced to one lane, but this idea was scrapped after shopkeepers complained. Apparently some of them still like to think that Queen Street should offer street parking.

Early adopters wrote journals, not blogs.
This is true. The online journal scene of the late '90s had nary a blogger in sight.
While technically this was because the word blog hadn't been invented yet, there was still a different feeling to those ye olde websites. There was less of "X said Y and I feel angry. Here is a link!!!!" and more sentences and paragraphs of substance.

But what I missed most of all was lack of sausages!
Oh, but those bagels chips were so good.

Jeeze it was nice up there though.
It was a ripper of a venue. Watching the city lights all around was magic and gave Vospertron a run for their money. (BTW, Amanda took a brilliant photo of the dancers in action.)
But the venue felt a bit too big. I actually think that could have been solved if fewer chairs had been laid out, and in a smaller, tighter area, freeing up more space to socialise.
I loved the music the DJ was playing, but it was just a bit too loud at times. We weren't there to dance. We were all fired up and wanting to talk, but it was often hard to hear what people were saying, and therefore hard to participate in conversations.
But what I missed most of all was lack of sausages!
OK, but it's not all about complaints. I had a brilliant times and my bloggage of the night is over here.

__It wasn't me who brought up the baby oil.__
Who did then? Robyn? Must've been one hell of a wall-to-wall vomiting party, that Blend.
Well, we were all looking forward to your presence, Juha*, but when you didn't show up, we were forced to make our own fun. I squeegeed some baby oil out of Mr Slack's possum fur chest accoutrement, quaffed it in one go, and then puked all over the lovely new carpet in the museum.
It turned out to be a horribly misguided attempt at entertainment, and I suspect the museum will ban me from visiting Vaka Moana. :(
* This bit is actually true. A group of Blenders were lamenting your absence. Please come along next time!
