But the others... Hadlee and Meads especially have almost gone out of their way to un-deify themselves.
Oh c'mon. What self-respecting living legend doesn't hawk natural remedies and insurance in their spare time?
(actually when you list those two things together... does he not have faith in the former?)

Winston Whineray?
Wilson.

The Auckland issues page on the National Party's website might be seen as a sort of cosmic joke – it being wholly devoid of content.
Ah see, it's a ".Auckland Issues" page. Apparently issues to do with a new Auckland top level web domain.

I do however actually feel grateful that first past the post kept those loons away from the levers of power.
As compared to some of the loons MMP has let in?

Also I can't help but feel that hockey would get a lot more viewers if it didn't schedule its playoffs at the same time as the more popular NBA.
Given that ice hockey used to be played on frozen ponds, which only occur during winter, I'm going to go with "we were here first".
Also, both sports have playoffs that go on for over 2 months. It would be difficult to have them not clash and still call them both winter sports.

Opening an Auckland store from memory.

In some places you wouldn't bother of course. I mean sending back a dish at Valentines would be extremely churlish.
Besides, taking your dinner back and putting it back in all the buffet trays is going to turn the other diners off seconds.

Especially when Britain really does not have £130 billion to spend on symbolism.
130 billion to continue something that most people consider ended about 20 years ago? Cheap at twice the price!

I was walking past Urge one night and heard the doorman explain to two men that it was no-shirts night, and they'd have to disrobe to enter (which they happily did).
There's certainly another mini-category for 'people who as soon as it gets vaguely warm (either during summer, or in a crowded gig) take their t shirt off and dangle it out of the side of their pants. You see the smelly steam come off them when they come out of the gig having lost about a litre of sweat.
And another for that rugby forward look with a shirt with white collar, up, under a brown homespun if it's cold. Y'know, the one who always drinks straight from the jug.

What a depressing list of priorities.
Trident nuclear deterrance? Did we jump back to the 1980s and the cold war? How is that still a not negotiable priority for anyone?
And it's quite endearing when you think that if Cameron was behind an American-style security lockdown, they wouldn't have been able to get within a half-mile of Downing Street.
American inauguration is a pretty public spectacle, with the President not too far from the plebs on that whole drive thing.
