and he made it perfectly clear to Garrett that what might well be acceptable on an oil rig is not the standard of behaviour in Parliament.
Surely this sort of behaviour shouldn't be acceptable *anywhere*? Full credit to Hide for doing the right thing, but I can't help feeling that that particular line implies female workers on oil rigs should expect to be harrassed, which...really, no. And it's not even that I think Hide meant to imply that; I just don't like the "x isn't acceptable here" emphasis when x is just unacceptable, period.

See, large corporations do sometimes do good, if one's willing to take a realistic view of things.
Since elements within Big Pharma obviously re-packaged those mind control drugs and distrubted them as Gardasil, I'm not so sure I agree.

According to the anon editorial in today's DomPost, why yes "it"* is.
* for many values of "it"
I believe the correct value of "it" in this case is "everything", up to and including global warming. Or the conspiracy to make the public believe in global warming. Whichever you prefer.

At least it makes a change from the other popular theme on the Herald RV, that swine flu has been foisted on us by evil pharmaceutical companies to get us to buy their expired stocks of Tamiflu.
But the pharmaceutical companies are the ones who orchestrated 911. Duh.

"It's called a PUBLIC health system, you know.
One suspects the writer of that email misunderstands the meaning of the word "emergency".

Can I point out once again that Micael Lhaws* holds an MA in creative writing from Victoria
His interpretation of reality is nothing if not creative.

So given they are tools of taggers and illegal downloaders I suspect Judith Collins will be having them crushed shortly.
I don't think I can remember the last time I used a writeable disc, let alone for something illegal. OTOH, Sharpies would work perfectly well for naming flash drives, so they're probably still at risk there.

Ha, I've worked it out. "Textes" are what you get from Shane Warne.
My office-mate is now looking at me very strangely and it's all your fault.

Naughty messages to one's girlfriend is embarrassing for leaders, but hardly a crime.
I'm struggling to process the distance from reality needed to use the word "girlfriend" here.

I start to wonder if it is not too dis-similar to the administration of a large company - money comes in (corporate and personal taxes), money goes out (health, welfare, police/justice). Books have to be balanced, you can swing things one way or another (higher or lower taxes, higher or lower benefits) but at the end of they day it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that the country should not run at a loss for an extended period of time and that all people seem to want is the face of someone that they can relate to (trust, be proud of, whatever) at the helm of this "administration".
Except you're missing the major difference: companies are about profits, governments are about people. I don't want someone I can "relate to" running the place; I want someone who is competent. Someone who cares about doing the right thing for the country as a whole, not just whether they're liked. Maybe that's too much to ask for in a PM; but I rather think it's not.
