This week I made a long black and the blotch on the crema was in the shape of New Zealand. I should have taken a photo.
Indeed, for you were apparently blessed by an appearance of, er...the spirit of our nation?

It won't be so unusual to see the stable of presenters hamming it up -- they do that now anyway.
Sometime last week Hillary Barry actually choked at having to read an article about an apple with a blemish the shape of NZ - in preparation for its auctioning during the telethon - and Campbell started mocking her relentlessly from off-screen until she was laughing too hard to read it. Possibly the only sane response to that sort of "news content" I've seen for months.

This quote from English confuses me somewhat:
""The fact is that no amount of detail will change the perception that in some way I am gaining a bigger allowance than other members of Parliament."
Er, in the way where you're getting $1000/week and they're getting $460/week? That way? Not ringing any bells?
(Possibly he meant "bigger" in the sense of "more than I am entitled to", but it's a damn silly way to say it.)

Am I supposed to have a more eloquent reaction than a visceral 'ewwww' to this particular piece?
Because it's really not happening right now. But I'll keep you posted.
I feel a game of political Bingo coming on (two squares already - why are you complaining about X when Y is happening, why aren't your properly grateful for what you already have...)
-
And it would still be nonsense if Bill English was a bachelor in a betsit with ninety-six cats.
Yeah, but when he's saying things like "I am not going to allow anyone to require me to send my children away to meet some perception problem" I think noting he can damn well afford to house six kids on that income is fair game.

My suggestion is that anyone who thinks that tax cuts are the work of Satan, yet is quite happy to pocket them, is a hypocrite.
If you got a tax cut, of course. My taxes went up (well, ACC levy, technically, but it looks the same from here.)

The other thing in that category is samosa. There's a palaver for you.
I used to make samosas from scratch (shell included), but I need a sparkling clean kitchen and about two hours straight, both commodities in short supply these days. Plus they used about a week's supply of oil. But man, they were tasty.

In my capacity of Labour party drone I've spent some time this last couple of weeks depositing leaflets in people's mailboxes on which our dear leader claims to have a "fierce belief in New Zealand". Between that and Key's famous 'ambition' line I've had an epiphany for what my will be slogan when I eventually enter the political arena: "New Zealand: I'm blowing it right now." Couldn't possibly fail.
Hahaha, yes, we had a good dissection of those pamphlets while manning the YL table at the recent uni clubs day. I think the conclusion was "not *entirely* wince-inducing, if you squint".
But I think the lighter yellow or pinkish pulses cook away more quickly. Those are the ones I grab and they cook into a paste pretty fast.
Pretty fast, yeah, where pretty fast = half an hour, and that's discounting the time to make anything else you're having with it. They're reasonably low-effort food, but not for lunches. (That said, reheated mung dahl with tomato and onion on pita bread is seriously good, if you remember to make enough for leftovers.)

Secondly, I understand the impression people get of someone out of touch, but he's not. He's a decent, fair-minded man, who is not in the least lofty away from a microphone.
To back this up, a friend of mine worked part-time at the Law Commission, and I recall her being similarly complimentary. He obviously makes a better impression in person.
Bro, dahl takes 10 minutes to cook from scratch. Twenty at the most.
Really? You must be soaking it a while first. What sort of dahl are we talking here? (Though agreed re: the wrongness of microwave porridge/dahl/etcetera.)

But you can only advise a Minister if they ask for the advice.
Well, she was on Campbell Live just now claiming she did ask for advice. She was also extremely unclear as to who, precisely, she asked. Sure as hell didn't sound like it was a lawyer. But apparently there are Rules, and she followed them. She can't say what they are, exactly, but they exist. And she knows what they are. Just not on live TV.
On the hypocrisy stakes, she also announced that she takes umbrage on behalf of those poor innocent women being bashed as bludgers, because, hey, it's not like she had anything to do with the bashing! She supports them! They just need to toughen up a little, is all.
*facepalm*
