'It's fun to smoke marijuana! was a 'Queen' accusation, not Black Sabbath.
Yeah, that was me who got Black Sabbath wrong. I conflated Led Zeppelin & the fuss over Stairway to Heaven with Judas Priest and satanic warblings.
Actually, that was an interesting link - the bit about Lennon and others using pieces of music (not words) played backwards because they sound better? That can work in visual composition too - ie: reversing images, as happens in printmaking. It happened to me once when I got a B&W film developed and the photos were great, but somehow not quite what I expected. I realised that shots I'd framed with an object on the left had printed with the object on the right - they'd developed the other side of the film. But most of them were better compositions.

My best mate's dad had one of these - we called it Flash Gordon, took it out for hooning purposes. Bastard to park.

If you play the tape backwards you can clearly hear him say.
"I fubin' done it didn' I, I'd fuckin' do it agen, woodn' I"
And then the ambulance officer says,
"?uoy pleh I nac ,ecnalubmA"Told you before about listenin' to Black Sabbath backwards ... and leave those bloody chickens alone!

I found that all a bit weird last night watching/listening to it several times.
I was listening to the car radio when they played it - I'd been singing "Lalalalalalla, i can't hear you!" - so i didn't know what anyone else thought it said. all i got was "I...car (possibly can't) and a whole lotta angsty breathing. How anyone got "i shot the prick" outta that, has to be wishful thinking.

To me the heart of the problem has been the tacit collusion over the last three-four decades between the political class and business elites to infantilise the population. The drive, in the name of productivity, efficiency and affluenza, to turn us all from citizens with the time and inclination to participate in democracy to overworked, time hungry consumers is at the heart of the corrosion of democracy in the English speaking world. The out of touch, complacent and cocooned political class now looks indistinguishable from the out of touch, cocooned and complacent business elites.
Well said, Tom. Exactement.

From Craig's link to "export British racism" back a page:
"The government needs to do far better. We need to clearly set out what we are for, our vision for the country and our purpose for being in government," he said. (Alistair Darling)
We want our government to do this too, mate.

the 3.6% Mussolini
tee hee.
Gee whiz, so they're not plotting to rob the money bin unless they're wearing those little black masks and shirts that read Beagle Boys?

FWIW, i agree with Gio. It was hard to discuss matters more broadly, beyond downloading music, eg, when Mark & Robbery "owned" that thread. Found the thinly veiled contempt for anyone who didn't agree that copyright sucks rather tedious. Did propel me to learn more, tho.

I wish we had some local TV satire,
I think the wonderful Ian Dalzell who coined this phrase:
I finally figured out what Pry Mincer Key is saying
should take up political cartooning.
