I think with sympathetic mentoring and better access to appropriate healthcare, a lot of people on health-related benefits would be less sick. Everybody wants sick and disabled people to achieve all they’re capable of, right? If the MSD could work with and for its clients, I think the outcomes would be better for everyone.
Instead of “helping sickness beneficiaries into work” being a euphemism for “pointlessly threatening and harrassing beneficiaries to apply for work they can’t do and won’t get”.

As for a Drama series Isn’t it just that?
Well I don't really know what they have in mind. I don't know how you can make a drama that's any more dramatic than what actually happened! I think documentary might be more useful -- there is after all still so much to document...but who knows.

Thanks for the pics Gudrun, it looks so shiny and new! Again, out-of-towners probably won’t appreciate what a wonder a rebuilt supermarket is for us.
What I look forward to most is familiar smiling faces on the checkouts! I hope they’ve been able to re-employ lots of their former staff.
I like to support businesses where the staff look contented. Some supermarkets you can tell they’re hating every minute. -

When I did undergrad philosophy there was a lot of talk of “this is the argument that wears the trousers”, a sexist and also rather peculiar metaphor! One of my friends suggested “the argument that wears the overalls” might be an improvement.
I don’t really know how legwear comes into it, but if any argument has the overalls on, it’s yours.

All that I’ve read about trauma survival and recovery advocates story telling – lots of it.
I think expressing our own experience is so important, and so potent. And we all have different perspectives on a major event.
Reporting on other people’s experiences has risks, and I think wherever possible we should only speak with our own voice. If Wellington people want to give their own perspective, all power to them. As long as they don’t try to speak for us. If they want to listen to us respectfully, and have a dialogue, that’s great. As long as we keep our own voices.
