Given the sheer scale of Chinese manufacturing, there must be the possibility to have an "ethically-produced" cellphone built, yes? The fact that it hasn't been done may tell us quite a bit about the genuine cash-meets-the-road purchasing intentions of the average Western consumer, despite what outrage the NY Times article may have stirred.

  • Hard News: #BDOMemories,

For all the big-stage/big-tent memories I have (and defined BDO in most people's minds), the "stickiest" memory I have is of a Japanese reggae/dancehall band (Cool Wise Men) being fronted by Eddie Tan Tan Thornton playing to a fairly-empty-but-loving-it Lilyworld in '08 as the sun was going down. It was the kind of intimate/crazy/fun musical experience that is hard to achieve at BDO.

And on that note, enjoy Splore Russell - Basement Jaxx at the last one were a really interesting comparison to their 2000 (was it?) BDO show actually. Their actual show in 2000 was better for me, but Splore pulls off that intimate/crazy/fun experience much more so than BDO ever could for me. You get a different nature of act in attendance as part of that thought...

  • Hard News: Merry Christmas, Blossoms,

I've never been one for saying, as people seem to now, "happy holidays".

    Jack Donaghy's Christmas Card:
    Outer: Happy Holidays....
Inner: ... is what terrorists say

I'll just run with "thanks a bunch"...

On the website itself or tracked more broadly across all boards, blogs etc?

  • Legal Beagle: Election '11: the special votes,

As I just said on Dim Post - if it all breaks as expected in your forecast, National add ONE seat and their current loose coalition pals loses 5 between them. Where they could govern just with ACT last time, that now leaves them short.

It just doesn't feel like the huge victory it seems to be getting painted as? Or am I missing something? Incumbent Government adding a seat rather than losing them maybe?

  • Hard News: Democracy Night,

Oh sorry I thought there was a 2 seat overhang, thought MP only had enough for 1 one on the party vote...

  • Hard News: Democracy Night, in reply to Richard Grevers,

You lose a vote from Speaker huh? (Makes sense just never considered it). Then yes they need the Maori Party and given the serve they've been given by their electorate that might be an interesting discussion over the next couple of days. Not in a way that National won't form Government but outcomes might be interesting.

  • Hard News: Democracy Night,

So am I right in saying its currently National + National.2 + Dunnecula get them 1 seat over majority? 62 seats of a 122 seat Parliament?

Or do they need another seat?
